The history of this Devalaya tutelary by Sri Devol Maha Devindu goes to a very long time to the past. It is before the arrival of Prince Vijaya. This period happened during the time of Gauthama Buddha. A group of Gods arrived at the Ferry of Seenigama and there was a lady in this ferry as a leader. She was a lady who protected the chastity and people paid their homage from those days. This is called one stage of Paththini Mani who was worshipped by the people from the time of King Gajaba. It is confirmed according to tales about Paththini Mani, there was a Devol Devalaya till the arrival of Prince Devol.
Today people use canoes to go to the Devalaya for offerings. Those days people could do it in the mainland. This Devalaya is famous all over the island for grinding chillies, ginger, mustered and pepper and requesting the Devol Devindu to punish the culprits who cause sufferings. Devotees continue coming to the Davalaya especially on Wednesdays and Saturdays to curse the wrong doers.
There are some Devalayas which are famous for Devol Devindu. They are Weheragoda, Udugalpitiya (Dodanduwa) Gintota, Unawatuna Lanumodara, Ridioyagala and Horawela. These kinds of Devalayas are situated in the up-county also. Seenigama Davalaya is a majestic place. People pray to get reasonable solutions for their court cases. A new building is being constructed to facilitate the devotees who are unable to go to the Devalaya situated in the sea.

On September 04 the Day Perahera will proceed up to Hikkaduwa Tourist zone at 12.40 pm. and return to the Devalaya at 7.00 p.m. The Maha Perahera will parade the streets of Seenigama on September 06 and 31 night starting at 8.00 p.m. The Devol Madu Shanthi Karma and Pattinikolmura Yagaya will be held on September 7 and the fire walking ceremony will follow on September 8 at 7.00 a.m. the festival will conclude with the Deva dana on September 8 at 7.00 a.m.

ජාතික උත්සවයක් වශයෙන් ගැසට් කරන ලද දිවයිනේ සිව්දිග බැතිමතුන් අතර ප්‍රමුඛස්ථානයක් හිමිකරගෙන ඇති සීනිගම ශ්‍රී මහා දොවොල් දේවාලය විසින් සංවිධානය කරනු ලබන සීනිගම දෙවොල් පෙරහැර මෙවර 55වන වරට වීථි සංචාරය කිරීමට නියමිතය. සැප්තැම්බර් 01 උදා සමුළුවෙන් පෙරහර මංගල්‍යය ආරම්භ වන අතර ඒ සඳහා ත්‍රිවිධ රත්නයේ ආශිර්වාදය පතා එදින සර්ව රාත්‍රික පිරිත් දේශනයක් ද, පසුදා උදෑසන සංඝගත දක්ෂිණාවක් ද පවත්වනු ලැබේ. දේවාල පෙරහරේ වැඩම කරවනු ලබන දෙවොල්, නාථ, විෂ්ණු, කතරගම, ගණ, පත්තිනි යන දේව ප්‍රතිමා සහ සීනිගම ශ්‍රී දෙවොල් මහා ‍දේවාල භුමියේ ස්ථාපිත කර තිබෙන මණිමේඛලා දේව ප්‍රතිමාව සඳහා නානුමුර අභිෂේක මංගල්‍යයක් ද පැවැත්වීම සිදු කෙරේ.

සීනිගම දේවාලය ගාල්ල දිස්ත්‍රික්කයේ හික්කඩුව වේරගොඩ, කොළඹ - ගාල්ල අධිවේගී මාර්ගයේ 96 කණුවෙන් ඔබ්බට වෙරළ තීරයේ පිහිටි සීනිගම ශ්‍රී දෙවොල් දේවාලය ආසන්න වර්ශ 1300 ක් පමණ පැරණියැයි සැලකේ.නමුත් සීනිගම දේවාලය පිළිබද අවුරුදු 300ක ලිඛිත ඉතිහාසයක සාක්ෂි පමණක් ඉතිරිව පවතී. ගොඩබිමෙන් මීටර් 300 ක් පමණ දුරින් මුහුද මැද පාවෙන අයුරින් දිස්වන තරමක උස ගල්තලාවක් මත නවීකරණය කරන සීනිගම ශ්‍රී දෙවොල් පුදබිම ඈත අතීතයේ ගොඩබිමේ පිහිටා තිබුණද වසර ගණනක් සමුද්‍ර ඛාදනයට ලක්වීම නිසා ක්‍රමක් ක්‍රමයෙන් අද වන විට ගොඩබිම සිට මීටර් තුන්සියයක් පමණ දුරින් මුහුද මැද පිහිටා තිබේ. දෙවොල් දෙවියන්ගේ ආක්‍රමණ⁣යෙන් පත්තිනි දේවියගේ ස්ථානය පැහැර ගන්නා ලදින් ඔහුගේ යසෝ කීර්ති පතුරුවන කේන්ද්‍රස්ථානය බවට සීනිගම ශ්‍රී දෙවොල් දේවාලය පත්විය.
