Typhon's story highlights what it is that truly made Zeus so powerful, and it wasn't his divine might but rather his many allies and ability to strategize. Typhon technically isn't even dead he is just trapped under the Earth's crust

Great video. The final battle between Zeus and Typhon had two main parts. During the first part, Zeus's thunderbolt injured Typhon, who started to bleed. Typhon's blood dropped on the mountains, that took the name Haemus Mons (from the greek word "αίμα" which means blood), and the entire peninsula took the name "Peninsula of Haemus". It's the ancient name of the Balkans. Then the injured Typhon fled away, and once arrived to Sicily, Zeus reached him again and threw a huge mountain above him, which is the Mount Etna. For saving the world from destruction, Zeus was named "Σωτηρ", which means savior. This became one of the war cries of the Greek phalanx's hoplites who when attacked the enemy were yelling "Zeus Savior" i.e Ζευς Σωτηρ.

At least read the actually myth instead of a bad fanfiction. If it was the actual myth… in most of them hades kidnapped Persephone (in some of them she started loving him (which is essentially stokholm syndrome) and in another she didn’t want to be there) and in some other Zeus feeling bad for her let her go out of her mother domain by making her follow some flowers which brought her in the underworld where she fell in love with hades. Zeus was never against their marriage… that was Demeter. Btw in the actual myths no god could be his equal. Hesiod said that he was stronger than all the other 12 gods put together. (Sorry for the mistakes… English is not my first language)

Zeus/Jupiter is underrated, though this was his crowning achievement later on in the mythology, the Orphic hymns to be specific Zeus consumes the World Egg and becomes the Universe past present and future. I think this this most recent incarnation of him is easilly above Typhon, especially with the invulnerable Aegis armor.

So the Olympian Gods went to Egypt and were worshiped in animal form? First I'm hearing about the two mythologies being connected. Then again I've heard people connect Greek and Christian mythologies together saying that the fallen angels became the Greek gods. Doesn't sound right but interesting to think about.
@phoebusapollo8365
@phoebusapollo8365 2 жыл бұрын
The Egypt thing was the Ancient Greeks’ attempt to reconcile their religion with Egypt’s, “ok they’re not crazy and they are worshiping gods, but their gods are actually our gods, who are the only gods!” The fallen angels thing is something similar, just the Christian version, Christian writers reconciling pagan gods and theology, saying the gods are fallen angels leading people away from worship from the true capital G God and not being actual deities since Christian theology hinges on there being only one god.

It has been proposed that Typhon and his tentacles was a garbled memory of a comet and its 'tails' or 'spin-offs'. When it struck the earth's atmosphere and caused storms, with damage and floods, that were mythologised into the battle with Zeus and the other gods. The flight of the gods to Egypt might be a reference to Greece's legacy to Egypt in art and culture. Check out "Exodus to Arthur" by Professor Mike Baillie and "Black Athena" by Martin Bernal.

@@Ravi9A Many myths are impossible to discern the precise origin and although unlikely it has come to notice how myths may simply not always share a common origin even tho commonalities are present. It could be that ancient humanity trying to find answer to something and drawing inspiration from natural occurrence commonly reached similar conclusions. You see this mostly in Arts, but also myths. Classic example is how many Pantheons have always a God-king opposed by an incredible evil or a thunder god fighting a great monstrous serpent/dragon. Even in Aztec religion the Creator God Quetzalcoalt main antagonist is a God who among many other things was the God of Hurricanes. Or the story about Quetzalcoalt and the Five Suns there's mention of Quetzalcoalt taking down the Sun aka previous Monarch, taking controll by usurping power or how there's mention of him unleashing a great catastrophe to wipe out a humanity that degenerated into animals and faithless. Similar mythos you can find them all over the world with distances completely insurmountable for the times that make it hard to believe that there's one single origin for all of it. Unless we go conspiracy theory and these stories are real occurrence of a lost forgotten era where Gods walked the Earth, ruling humanity :).

I was expecting Nike and Tyche and Enyo to be the "helpers" (Nike? Not much) here but today, I found out that there's a version of this story where it's the Moirae / Fates -- which this video follows.

Yes, in our books this is true, the gods fled to Egypt disguised as animals, maybe that's where the form of the Egyptian gods being like a hawk, cat, dog etc came from and these animals were worshiped like gods. For example, Apollo the God of the Sun, would be Ra with the Sun Disk on top of him.

Zeus should be thankful to the Moirae sisters / sisters of Fates bcoz if not for the poisoned fruit he could not defeat Typhon be it in his human avatar form itself ..moreover never in Typhon's colossal form even if he strikes down all of his thunderbolt against him .. I expected Ares to rescue his father Zeus since he is the God of War but nowhere to be seen and guess fled to Egypt too. Athena on the other hand even as female/woman never left Zeus' side and fought Typhon side by side. Truly the greatest goddess in Greek History.

Um why would you want Zeus to win? The advancing empire from the east or Greece? The empire from the east wanted to replace the old Greek god kings and their temples for a new breed of gods. The people pushed into Greece were pawns, they had to go where they weren’t persecuted. The Greek kings were overwhelmed by this, the new people didn’t recognize Greek gods, and they the people clamoured for change over the ensuing generations. Until the new kings could hear them and push again. Happened in Greece, Rome, USA, Canada, Europe and it’s still shifting.

@@levidyer8042 the story is true. The sisters did not want eastern kings stepping into their realm of influence. They didn’t want Zeus to succeed. They wanted typhon and his Greek king army to succeed. But this wasn’t to be. The second they got their hands on Zeus’s tendons (ropes to move zeuses temple parts) and reanimated the weapon Zeus. Game over.

So was the sister's failed to give typhon the fruit and they knew they had to give it to him or did they really want Zeus to win and do it of their on free will? Kinda a catch 22 isn't it?
