Though not as big a gap as you, we skipped over the 16-bit generation and only got into it in about 1997. So, even in 97, we were still impressed by 16-bit console graphics. It was also nice because we could focus on getting only the best of the best games for rock-bottom prices.

They're fun enough to collect, but not so much to play. It might be neat to have one or two just to see what they're like, though. I'd recommend Ghost House.

I think the manual for Spy vs Spy actually recommends screen watching... Looking forward to the Teddy Boy review. I had never played the game much, but it kind of grew on me while capturing game play video of it.

@@MightyQDawg I only ever played spy vs. Spy against the cpu and that is not a fun experiance

It was nowhere near as popular as the NES here in the States. (In fact, most people here thought the Genesis/Megadrive was Sega's first console.) However, it wasn't hard to find either: I found out about it simply by going to local toy store and seeing it on the shelf. My family had one and so did my friend, and we had a blast with it. @@MightyQDawg Looking at my figures *typing noises* the US sold 32mill NES's and just 2mill sms's. This disparity seems huge. People always say they never even heard of the sms but you say it was no big deal to buy one. I suppose it just had a really tiny library compared to the NES. But still, just 2 million!? Perhaps it was just too late to market for that generation in North America.

@@iwanttocomplain The marketing here was pretty bad: there were very few TV commercials for it, whereas the NES had many. I think people just heard about NES from friends (and TV) and it snowballed from there. I'll stick by what I said: it wasn't hard to find, I just don't think people were looking out once they had heard about the NES. As you mentioned, the SMS library was lacking too. Super Mario Bros. was definitely a "killer app".

@@MightyQDawg Yeah I think it always did lack a killer app. The Sonic games were a bit meh. Also, Sega never had good commercials. I remember "Do me a favour, Plug me Into a Sega" when Virgin was marketing it. But it showed Moonwalker and got it on that merit. The NES was advertised much earlier with the robot (which turned out not to do anything really) but it cost too much at that point and they didn't really show the games. I didn't know anyone who owned a NES. The only other console I'd seen was some people's old 2600's with games like Pele Soccer and Combat. Good games on the 2600 though.
