I have been teasing this series for a very long time...and that's because it took a VERY LONG TIME to make...a twenty episode retrospective on every Sega developed arcade racing game in 3D! Because whether its retro gaming or modern pc gaming...Sega is the KING of the arcade racing genre! So buckle up and get ready for a retrogaming ride!
THE RULES FOR INCLUSION: 1) It must have had an arcade release (So no Sega GT) 2) It must be in 3D (Bye Bye Outrunners, etc etc) and 3) you MUST be racing against an opponent and not just a timer (sorry Crazy Taxi, Wild Riders)

Up First: Sega Race TV! This is Yu Suzuki's FINAL GAME with Sega before he left the company entirely and started Y's Net and produced Shenmue 3. He was working on three games before he left...one being Shenmue Online...and we all know how that worked out!
But Sega Race TV is one wild game. It's like a mix up between Daytona Racing USA and OutRun 2 with a tiny bit of Mario Kart / Sega and Sonic All Stars Racing mixed in! Which means you know its going to be one of the best racing video games around! Oh and maybe a tiny bit of Crazy Taxi for good measure...feels very Dreamcast like! It feels like an AM2 racing game but it was technically made by AM Plus.
This runs on the Sega Lindberg Yellow Arcade PCB, so it's really just PC Gaming in a box.

The game themeing is fun but as a racer I think it falls slightly short considering it's a Yu Suzuki title. It's got those really wide corners everywhere with no run-off areas and very rubber bandy opponent cars so it feels a bit easy when you win and RNG when you lose.

No MiSTer. It’s just basically a PC in a box arcade system so it will just run on PC with some trickery

If you want a racing game like this on home console, there's 'Jimmie Johnson's Anything with an Engine' on PS3, Xbox 360 or Wii.It has similar stadium setup but vehicle selection is even crazier because, well, you race anything with an engine.

Yu Suzuki is truly a master of Japanese-Americana. He makes America seem like a magical fantasy land in a unique new way every single time. This game is like Evel Knievel meets a blacksploitation film

haha I rescheduled this series and moved it up because I wanted to start it. I have a wheel, but I sometimes use a Series controller as well. Depends on how much setup I want to deal with

One of the most fun and absurd racers but I’m totally up for it, as you rightly said it’s like Suzuki san was given total “Carte Blanche” on this one and went to hell with it!!🤪👏👌 So sad this never got a port and I’ve yet to find a way to play this on TP full screen with an hd wrapper. Luckily I got to play this a lot on the arcade and if I’m honest if I had the coinage and space I’d probably pickup a single player arcade cabinet. Oh well I can dream!!😅 Will look foward to all this series from you and thanks as always VGE!!

Yes it seems to just run in windowed mode at its original resolution sadly. But better than nothing!

@@VideoGameEsoterica Wait really? I've ran this one at 1080p full screen before. UI elements don't scale at all so everything is stuck in the upper left corner of the screen while the game is rendered in widescreen

So excited for this series! I really wish Sega would rerelease all their classic racing games in one mega-collection, but car licensing prevents us from even getting total masterpieces like Sega Rally. I'd pay full $70 MSRP, whatever it would take!!!

Licensing is always the problem. I don’t know why they felt so compelled to license real vehicles in the first place. I’ve never been “oh I wouldn’t have played this game but hey a Ferrari”…only time I’ve gotten excited for licensed cars was the latest Gran Turismo…and I just wanted to see how close to perfect they got the GTI interior because that’s what we used to drive

I got to try out a real FZero AX machine at a con earlier this year and getting thrown about the cockpit while turning is an experience I'll never forget. Definitely hop in one if you get the chance

I love this game! I just wish someone would iron out the few glitches the Teknoparrot version has.. and being able to upscale it from the original 480p in-game without messing up the graphics. It's a really fun game, classic Yu Suzuki! OutRun 2 is still the GOAT ofcourse, but SEGA Race TV belongs in the SEGA top 10 racing games for sure.

At first I hated it because you realize that in the arcade no kid would ever beat it unless they had time and money to waste, plus it has a code system for saving information..once I learned how to properly play it and upgraded the boats, I loved trying to find all of the quickest ways to finish the race. You also learn that shortcuts might trick you into thinking their actually shorter.

Come on Sega. Release an arcade racing game collection. Say ten games. This, Scud Racer, Daytona, Sega Rally, Outrun, Hang On...... So many to choose from. Follow it up with a sprite scaler collection featuring Afterburner, G Loc, Galaxy Force, Space Harrier etc and a fighting collection featuring Virtua Fighter, Fighting Vipers etc. There is money to be made and good will to be earned 🙂

@@VideoGameEsoterica Yes. Wish they would. They have dropped games into the Yakuza series. Why can't they just do a compilation ? Megadrive collection, Dreamcast collection and Sonic collections have been done. This wouldn't be hard and I'm sure liscensing good be renewed or shared like Konami with the Turtles collection

Do you need a beefy PC to handle TeknoParrot? Would it run on Steam Deck?

Steam Deck COULD handle this, but currently it's not working even on Windows. Some driver issues. But it should have the horsepower to easily run most of the Teknoparot stuff. Personally I did this on a 12900K and a 3090 and thats OVERKILL AF. I think the GPU was at like 15-20% utilization

NP. I am doing a whole series on emu setup guides + other fun tutorials and weird stuff for Steam Deck and Teknoparrot was one of the first ideas I had. Just not ready yet

@@VideoGameEsoterica oh that's great, I've never even set up TeknoParrot even on my PC. On an unrelated note, I was thinking of adding some original Xbox games to my Steam Deck. I know the compatibility of Xemu isn't wonderful, but it might be worth adding some of the games that do run perfectly.

Do it. It’s hit or miss but some games are great. I’ve tested basically every emulator so far to make videos on and it’s all pretty damn impressive. Only PS3/OG Xbox are iffy and that’s not steam deck…that’s just the current state of the emulation

I really wish Sega would re-visit Outrun, and give us Outrun 3, or Outrun 2023/4 or whatever name. Last Outrun was the awesome OutRun 2006 Coast 2 Coast, that was a blast, but it's now 16 years old, and starting to age. Maybe even re-visit their past library and give us modern Scudrace, Sega Rally, Daytona, etc... so much potential, but Sega seems disinterested, and a bit lost as a company.

Man this looked awesome! I've _never even heard of this,_ too - freakin' Sega. Gotta love their racers, but gotta _hate_ the fact that they kept making so many with stupid licensed cars instead of knock-offs; they can *never* re-release the vast majority of them, or give them wide releases on consoles. SO ANNOYING. Why are the only long-lived racing series' in games today exclusively sim titles and the "simcade" junk that obnoxiously keeps trying to claim the title of arcade racers. Yeah, right. When you look like _Sega Race TV,_ Forza Horizon and NFS, *THEN* you can call yourself an arcade racer, jeez. I predict this Sega racing series of yours is going to be both fantastic as all your other stuff and also _very_ frustrating to watch then, as we're just assaulted with loads of games Sega let wither and become forgotten instead of building into any kind of proper series or dynasty, all because of their stubborn love of licensed content and keeping arcade games locked to the arcades. They're a real nightmare for legit game preservationists too, not just goons like me who want to play this stuff on their Playstation or Xbox :) Man, I'm gonna go buy an arcade racer right now to support the indie devs still making these things. Been meaning to nab Inertial Drift, Anti-Graviator and Warp Drive anyway... Really looking forward to this series, VGE! Thanks for bringing Sega Race TV to our attention too - this seems obscure even to the people who already know of stuff like SCUD/Sega Super GT! SO looking forward to your look at R Tuned!
