I have been teasing this series for a very long time...ever since I did the Sega Arcade Racing Retrospective last year...and that's because it took a VERY LONG TIME to make...a thirty episode retrospective on every Sega Model 1, Sega Model 2 and Sega Model 3 arcade game ever made that isnt a racing title! Because Sega is the undisputed (in my opinion) king of retro gaming in arcades whether it be 2D or 3D! Classic arcade games time!
Just don't expect Daytona USA, Scud Race or Sega Rally...as that already happened back in 2023! Check the playlists!
But the Sega Model series of arcade boards are filled to the bring with some of the best Sega games of all time...as well as some Sega Hidden Gems!
Patreon Thanks: Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, Jon Anderson, RayceARoni, Kurangui, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, Barabob, Steve Randall, Ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerholm, Adrien Sebbane,
tobemorecrazy, Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Humanoide70, Ben Parfitt, Holder Schmidt, Tim Lehner, Shad Uttam, Dan L, James Mann, Richard Schneider, Coupon Joe, Sunder Raj, Dorfus the Maple Syrup Man, John Booty and Craig M!
Up next: Gunblade N.Y.! If you took Virtua Cop, Time Crisis and The House of the Dead, mixed then up in a blender and poured the slurry out into a helicopter...you'd have Gunblade NY! An on rails shooting game that is just straight action from start to finish! It feels like an unofficial side game in the Virtua Cop franchise and it's from start to finish a Sega hidden gem as I rarely hear anyone mention the game!
It was supposed to get a Sega Saturn port and when that didn't happen it was supposed to get a Sega Dreamcast port...but we had to wait all the way till the Nintendo Wii to get the game at home! It's definitely a Nintendo hidden gem and a Wii hidden gem though!
and the best part is you can use the "Model 2 Emulator" to play the arcade original if you don't have an original arcade PCB!

Fun Fact: The Wii port had a number of visual changes like the Coke advert was replaced by an advert of Sonic and The Black Knight, the police officers in Midtown Manhattan were replaced by taxi drivers, and the explosion on the UN building was removed.

The fun part for me playing this in the arcade was using both guns at the same time, channeling my inner John Woo. Though I ended up in severe pain afterwards.

the giant guns were actually just a huge joystick! feel like I have to mention it whenever the wii conversion comes up, but I don't know if you remember the tie-in promotion they held... you could win the DX version of the arcade original with a big screen?! I was that lucky winner, haha. but man yeah this game was quite epic! I loved trying to get to the end of 'score attack mode' without dying, which definitely got tough because one errant missile could take you out and end your credit for good. of course the better you did the harder levels you got to play through, like that night-time stage with the flying robots? definitely gets intense.

Love all the lightgun episodes recently! Such a fantastic genre. I last played this one on my Steam Deck with gyro controls. Not the same unfortunately, but still a pretty solid way to experience a lightgun game!

@@rocraider163 Docked mode. I use a PS5 controller to play with gyro in Model 2 lightgun games. Doesn't work with the Model 3 games unfortunately. I wish my guncon 3s would work but the Steam Deck doesn't seem to recognize them.

I am definitely in the motion sick camp. Game looks pretty rad but I actually had to stop the video right around the time you mentioned motion sickness (funny enough). This isn't the only game that does it to me. As a kid I actually got violently ill playing bionic commando of all things due to the way the screen jerks around. It took me a little while to figure out that it was just certain games that cause it and it isn't the norm either so I'm not entirely sure why some games do it and most don't.

This was definitely a game you had to play in the arcade to fully appreciate. It’s pretty brainless as far as shooters go. But this was all about having the gun and the ground shake violently as you mowed baddies down in the helicopter.

This is a terrific game, but the constantly vibrating gun in the arcade made my hands go numb after playing for 10 minutes. Granted, I was a kid back then, but I surprised at how intense the rumble was. The N64 Rumble Pack was downright wimpy compared to Gunblade NY! I haven't tried the Wii version, but I'm betting a rumbling Wiimote has no chance of making my hands go numb.
