As with most popular gaming consoles, the larger libraries tend to easily swallow up the lesser known titles. When I was a kid I played all of these, but time and the better games quickly relegated them to the backburner. Let's take a look at some games that many of you may not know about.

Episode Notes:
1. Games captured on the Mega SG.
2. DJ Boy is out to rescue his girlfriend in the Japanese version.
3. Insector X has an interesting overhaul from the arcade version. There it was kinda a cut'em up, but the visuals were redone in a much more serious art style on the Genesis.
4. I originally had Combat Cars in this group but couldn't capture any real meaningful gameplay from it. That game is unbelievably hard in the later stages. I gave up in utter frustration.
5. Cyberball kicked my ass. I hadn't played it in a while so I was really rusty. The gameplay you see here I was blown out 23-7.
6. The difference in quality of Sega's Disney's games really was unreal. The in house games turned out fairly good, while nearly all the outsourced stuff suffered mightily.

I bought it a couple of years ago and still quite like it, too. But I have the Japanese version, which does not censor the offensive stereotypes of some of the characters and (I'm told) has various other differences. I am a retro gamer as well. Dating back to the 70's with my old Pong machine and my Atari 2600. Then my 5200. Finally I found and received the Nintendo NES for Christmas. I was in AWE. But with everything especially video games, things change, expand, grow, etc. The Vectrex system was such a wild and unique concept. I really wanted one, but I had already dropped a LOT of money on games. Sadly I never even got to own one. I THINK I tried one at a local gaming store called Babbages. Back in the 80's and 90's, they were in Shopping Malls. Anyway it had a simplistic look but it was extremely wild looking when you played it. I have seen "reviews" or footage of games so I am fully aware now of it's capabilities which are awesome! It was like a mini arcade machine. While I did feel bummed I never had one, I owned a crapload of systems and games. Nintendo NES, Super-NES, N64, Sega Master System, Sega Genesis & CD, Sega Nomad, Saturn, Dreamcast, TurboGraphx-16, Commodore Vic-20, Commodore-64, 🍎Apple IIe🍎, and eventually a IBM or that type. Yes I have a problem..lol. Now I've gotten into the "Minis" and I LOVE THEM! However I really want to get back to the actual systems from the 80's and 90's. The Minis are great but I want the REAL GAMES! And maybe if some miracle happens I can find a old working Vectrex someday? Crossing my fingers. 🤞

Very interesting episode. Growing up as a MD/Genesis owner, I remember renting many of these. I get a weird nostalgia for some and because of that fondness, they kind of ended up in the "so bad it is good" category for me; namely Fighting Masters and Street Smart, but also Beast Wrestler (not shown in this video). Thaks for rekindling those memories! Also something interesting I remembered: Insector X was originally a "Cute 'em up" on the arcades and PCE Engine (I think it got ported there anyway), but got a major visual reskin on the Megadrive, and we ended up with the high tech bug things.

Loving all the great content you are putting out recently Sega Lord X! I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and had an NES, SNES, and finally, an N64 so I missed out on all cool Genesis, Saturn, and Playstation 1 games of that time. Thankfully I’ve been able through collecting and emulation to play a lot of the games I missed. (I remember being sooooo jealous when I was like 12 or 13 that the Genesis was getting an “X-Men” game! I was a huge X-Men fan growing up and that just made my pre-teen self so salty, lol!). I’ve become a big fan of the Saturn (especially its RPG’s) since then and your videos have let me know about a lot of games I otherwise would have missed! Thank you again for the awesome videos!!!!

You know what kills me? The Genesis originally was supposed to have the superscaler hardware but they decided to cut it out. Both of those things would have improved gaming at home 100 times over!

Okay, I never noticed this before, but shoutout to the Rabio Lepus ad in the background of Super Volleyball. A very quirky PC Engine shmup.

Pigskin: Footbrawl. My only football/rugby game I've ever owned, when i sold my old systems at a retro gaming store in 2013 they had no record of the game in their system and gave me extra for it. Game plays as a horizontal sport game loosely based on both before-mentioned, weapons on field to kill other players that resurrect after every point and obstacles on the field, ridiculously easy, but a lot of fun for a 15-20 minute play

DJ Boy was the first game to give me a genuine nightmare. The first I saw was in the arcade section at a skating rink (damn that makes me feel old). The boss of the second stage is the pumped up Chippendale dancer that moves around with this real weird strut. That night, the next night, and the night after, I had funky dreams of that weirdo chasing me down with that strut. The thought of it haunted me for like a year.

DJ Boy was a game I played at my local fish and chip shop in the early 90's on a Arcade machine, I then rented the Mega Drive port about a year later from a video store.. Memories tell me I liked the Mega Drive version because I thought it was so like the Arcade game I played but going back to both versions in the last 10 years made me realise that that was just nostalgia talking.

Solid video as usual, and you hit most of these games on the head. Fighting Masters is fun as heck 2 player as is Cyberball, which I always got confused with Speedball. But both were fun with a buddy. What's sad about Tailspin and Championship ProAm is that their NES counterparts are better, immensely so in the former. If you haven't played Tailspin on the NES, I recommend it. It's basically a shoot em up with some maze-like level design here and there. Does the show justice, and pretty sure it was done by Capcom.

It never failed to amuse me just how much all of the characters weighed, the sound they made when they hit the walls and floor, like solid blocks of titanium.

Pretty sure he's covered the Rolling Thunders too, but you'll notice none of them were in a video with "Forgotten Sega Genesis Games" in the title. This is a series that could easily reach/convert an audience of not-yet-subs, as well as one that has long legs since it covers both the good & bad. Like, I could easily think of 8-10 videos covering as much ground as this one did without having to strain my brain. Sage's Creation & exclusive EA titles alone could fill at least 3.5 videos.

It’s funny, my brothers and I had a lot of these games growing up. Seems like streetsmart we loved but we also loved it in the arcade and Insector X was another one that I remember being fond of.

Oh, man! Fighting Master arrived in Brazil years after Street Fighter 2 SCE, so imagine how bad it was received (to the point: the slow pace, slower motion at any hit was unbearable). But Super Volleyball was the opposite: one of the first titles, with lots of fun and SPECIAL MOVES: thunder services, asteroid-like rebounds, deflective second-balls, wall-like blocks... . If two players compete each other with this repertoire, the match could last hours, in a way that towards to... idk... Dragon Ball Z?! It was a crazy game (remember, at first you have think it's a plane vanilla sports game) down there at the beginning of Genesis/Mega drive live. Thanks for (once again) bring back those kimd of memories, @SegaLordX

Fighting Masters was actually a pretty fun rental back in the day. It was no Street Fighter II but it was interesting. That awesome temple stage BGM has been stuck in my head for years - to the point where I learned to play it on my keyboard! Grinder was my favorite character. The same team went on to create it's spiritual successor: Cosmic Carnage on the 32X. You all know how that turned out...😬

Talespin is a decent game. I hadn't played it for ages and had a go at it a few weeks ago and I never had any real issues with it. The pyramid level inside the tomb is probably the only section I get lost in but other than that, I think it's a pretty decent Sega of America title. Insector X is one of my favourite shooters and I can't seem to find a copy of it anywhere, it must have been in a low print run or something back in the day because it is very rare.

Super Volley ball was AWESOME! There were "secret" moves that would make a difference! If you EVER played Volleyball you would see that the moves could be done with button combinations and it was comprehensive. Get 2 players that knew what they were doing and you had a thrilling match! Underated gem

I agree. There’s a way to serve a spike that makes the ball go up really high and come back zigzagging that’s almost impossible for the opponent to receive/defend. Also, all teams do not play the same and they get harder when advancing in the tournament. Many KZfaqrs play the games for 5 minutes or just beat the first stage to make a video and for people who played it’s clear when they’re aren’t familiar with the game.
