The Seikan Tunnel is an undersea tunnel for railways that connects Hokkaido and Honshu. In 2015, the Hokkaido Shinkansen was opened, and the section of about 82 km including the Seikan Tunnel became a dual gauge with a standard gauge of 1435 mm for the Shinkansen and a narrow gauge of 1067 mm for conventional trains.
I will explain how and where the Shinkansen and conventional line merge and how trains operate on this dual gauge section.
