Manks Thanks Rob for the comprehensive review; it is the best overall Sports and Dress watch from Seiko, at this price range. It contains everything you need; 200 meters WR, Screw-down crown, advanced 6R movement and 70 hours power reserve.

Bought this as my first automatic watch. I can't stop looking at it. Chose this same color so that it'll be timeless forevere and classy.

Great looking Alpinist full of little details and features. Also, a 70hr power reserve for 750 retail is not bad. Thanks for sharing Rob.

The great thing is that you get it below retail all the time because it's not a limited model. I got the green one for 560 dollars. Saphire, 20 Bar water resistance, incredible lume, sub 40mm, 70 hours power reserve and one of the richest heritages of all Seiko watches is not bad what you get for the price. Great timepiece

Rob, you are right. I set my hands at 6:30 for any mechanical watch when setting the date. It's a good practice to get into if you have a mechanical watch you don't want to damage. You would be surprised at the amount of people that don't know the movement can be damaged if they try to adjust the date when the movement is in the process of auto date change.
@piquetuk2 жыл бұрын
I do the 6.30 thing too, I might have even got it from you, it's a good habit to have, cheers Rob. It was always the previous Alpinist SARB017 I wanted until I saw the Ginza, what a dial. For me this cream dial is the pick of the others but the Ginza is the one.

Normally I like black dial watches, but recently I have wanted a white/cream color dial watch. This just might be the one.

This was the one for me; mine is lovely. The 19mm lug width might be a problem for me except I'm never going to take the bracelet off. The bracelet may be typical Seiko, but I don't know because it's the first one with a bracelet I've bought in this price range? Solid end links, my only complaint is the lack of microadjustments. Pictures don't do the dial justice. I don't think it's valid to complain about the thickness, because although it is pretty enough to be a dress watch, it's technically a tool watch, it's also not really as thick as it sounds, lays flat on the wrist. The reflections off the minute track are epic.
@bronco11992 жыл бұрын
I found one, mint 650cad, for a 6r , 200m, screw down, the thickness is good if you have a bigger than average wrist, gives it some presence.

Beautiful watch overall but it's a pity it has 19mm lug width. I don't mind a well done date window but I think this watch would look better without one. Enjoyed the video, thanks.

I wonder why seiko has issues making thin watches. I own quite a few seikos. But I just don’t understand why their dress watches have to be so thick. I have a field Hamilton that’s thinner, longer power reserve, made in Switzerland and cheaper than comparable seikos. Boggles my mind.

Seriously man this is killing me. I love the watch so much but the thickness is soooo off-putting.

I'm an Alpinist fan, I've got 3 of them in various colors, but this one bugs me... I see that Zelos is about to release the new Spearfish, overtaking this Seiko on all specs, nothing to compare about the design & category indeed, but I'm just coming to the point that, for the same price range, any could purchase a much better watch with the Zelos. No serious micro adjustment, hexalite instead of Sapphire...And seriously this Seiko is thick, with 12.9mm, considering that the Alpinist serie main advantage is that they use to be compact (39mm/12mm), comfortable and serious enough to use as a daily at the office with a costume. I also own an Horizon in red burgundy, so I'm able to appreciate both brand's qualities for the price, and one more time if I really genuinely love my Alpinists, I think I'd recommend the microbrand for the budget, even so the Zelos won't fit as easily under the sleeve of a costume.

But it is also a Zelos, I'm not a watch snob at all, but for me, brand history matters. Many microbrands make watches with great specs but the history is just not there. Seiko is well respected, has in-house movements, and rich history. I just can't wrap my head around buying a micro brand but to each their own.

also if you do not go forward & back it takes like 15ish seconds for the minute hand to start moving when you push the crown in. this method allows the watch to be aligned to the correct minute when the seconds hand crosses the 12 position & not be in between minute markers forcing the wearer to guess the actual time.

Beautiful watch but terrible 6R35 movement. Doesn’t get much wrist time as I have many watches but runs 2 minutes fast over 24 hours😳my vintage watches are more accurate. This is the second Seiko watch I’ve bought with really poor and unacceptable accuracy … bought the Turtle a few years ago which had the same issue. Seiko really need to improve there QC . It’s still in guarantee so will be going back to the AD for recalibration.

I mean sure I agree the straps could be better. I’m not a watch expert by any means but from what I’ve seen the high end straps with all the top end micro adjustments etc aren’t super common in the sub 1000 watch category. But I hate bracelets and usually go with leather, rubber or nato straps so I don’t have a super educated opinion
