I don’t understand why everyone is bashing the price. It compares to a Tudor Black Bay in specs and wearability for 1/3 of the price. I think it’s a steal, it depends what you compare it to

Thanks for the upload! This WILL be my next watch. My current daily driver is a SRPD55 that I put on an Uncle Seiko waffle and just love the thing. If I could wave a magic wand and change anything it would be make it just a teeny bit shorter in height and have an all brushed case. Seiko answered and released this SPB317 - classic colourway, classic aluminum bezzle, all brushed case and just a teeny bit shorter than the SRPD. Absolutely timeless design. There's just no need to get all fancy and ruin the formula with gimmicks, I mean complications. You can't go wrong with understated. It never goes out of style.

For me this was the perfect dive watch, I was looking at the Willard reissue and the King Turtle, then I found this one and it had everything I wanted in my first automatic Seiko. Plus I prefer rubber straps, they just work, and it's the main reason why I wear my Arnie so much.

Seiko has foreseen the hyperflation and started it before it was cool. Now the rest of the world is keeping up with Seiko and their prices will eventually look normal. Genius move.

The term you are looking for is hyperinflation and no we are not there yet for a while. Seiko believes by raising prices to luxury level they can enter the luxury market while chinese homage manufacturers turn out the same models for seiko prices of years past.

A really tough sell. Even if it's made in Japan, the Japanese yen is way down this year, versus the dollar, so the price doesn't make sense. This is a chunk of steel, regular movement (6r-whatever) and 200m - a $250 watch from five years ago.

It's not cheap, but I guess Seiko knows the nostalgia it brings. So Seiko knew how people like me would pull the trigger on this. I was willing to pay premium for the emotional factor that it brings. And for the size, too. I just have a 6.25-in wrist, and couldn't have enjoyed anything bigger than this watch. Even the Land Turtle felt big. But this one, oh boy, feels perfect and comfortable on my wrist. So I also have to thank Seiko for coming out with something that's accessible to persons with small wrists. For all that, I paid a premium. Can't say I'm disappointed.

@@TillSwims This is true, although the Land Turtle has a larger diameter at 42.4mm compared to the 41mm of the Slim Turtle. I tried both, and the Land Turtle seemed to wear a bit larger. This is about as perfect as a non-8L Seiko diver gets. I’m more than happy to pay the asking price. The fact that it hasn’t caught fire is frankly mind boggling. I guess these days Seiko “fans” need an influencer to validate a Seiko diver first before they can get excited about it 🙄

Most people are to sane to pay 900 bucks for an off the shelf middle of the run Seiko. No offense. But when you ask that kind of money with all the competing brands out there (many of them use a selitta sw200 eta2824 clone, which is arguably better than this one), Seiko has a hard time to justify their price. At least for their prospex line with a basically unregulated movement and the bezel not aligned perfectly. There are so many divers at that size out there and for all kinds of prices. Lower, higher whatever. Seiko seems to be trying to figure out how much they can demand.

Its worth $900 because in ten years time it will still be worth $700 or more. Buy an everyday better spec watch that isn't a Seiko it will be worth nothing. Seiko bracelets are just awful to me. Coincidentally, Nick helped me purchase a Grand Seiko Spring Drive last week. He gave me a great deal. It was pre-owned but it looked brand new. Regarding this watch, I think it’s worth the price. I like the Turtle, but the indices look cheap and I’m over bigger watches. This watch looks more refined than the Turtle, so for me, it’s worth the price. A Rolex is double the price of a Tutor, but not really twice the watch. I know they’re minor differences, but it makes a world of difference.

I always had issues with Seiko movements running poorly. My Sarb, SKX, and 5 series. I bought the SNE573 and love it. The solar quartz is accurate and has all the things Seiko I love. I still prefer the SKX007 chassis to any of the Turtle case variants. Just like you always did Rob in your earlier videos when you were transposing Turtle movements into SKX bodies. I have owned both. There is a reason the SKX achieved icon status and the Turtle as popular as it was and I have owned a couple, never measured up to the SKX. The new model you show maybe preferable to the standard Turtle but would have to spend time with it but aesthetically, the SKX is a special watch. My vote.

I love this one. But I'm going to hold off on getting it because I know that Seiko is going to release a metric ton of variants, and there will be a colorway I enjoy way more than the ones currently out. And the sizing makes it better for my small wrist than the new titanium Citizen Challenge Diver reissue. I can wear a 47mm lug to lug watch much more easily than a 48.5, titanium aside. I don't like the price either, but it'll be $700 by next summer I'm sure.
@maxmeier532
@maxmeier532 Жыл бұрын
agreed, just black and white options is lackluster. Add the standard around 40mm size with a mediocre movement and you wonder why you should pay 900 bucks for this seiko opposed to a gazillion microbrands that have better movements (Sellita Eta clones) and are 2/3 the price, e.g. MAEN or again, thousands of others.
@caomhan84
@caomhan84 Жыл бұрын
@@maxmeier532 Well, I don't like microbrands, personally. Unless it's a really unique design, or a revived design from the past that no one else is making. They're all clones of each other and after 20 years of watch collecting, for a micro brand to entice me, it's going to have to offer me something. I don't chase specs, so I don't care about any of that.

Take the slimmer case of the Land Tortoise, make it slab-sided, and swap out the movement. That's basically this watch in terms of materials. (Although, the rubber strap here is likely worth more than the cheap canvas of the Tortoise.) This one should come down in street price later on, as the Tortoise did. But the price gap will be just big regardless. I can see this one being worth $700 tops, only because of the 6R.

I don't see a single reason to buy this watch considering its QC considering that microbrands have already gotten much better with that.

Agreed but have been burned by the lack of support from micro brands, so have moved back to looking at Seiko. I have been collecting Seikos since the early 1970s and never have issues getting OEM parts for my watches, even my 1972 Pogue when it needed a major overhaul. Many people forget this advantage of purchasing established name brands.

I love Seiko, this has a great case & beautifull hands, great lume.. But i want a bezel to line up, surely it is not beyond seiko to make a watch with a proper bezel that lines up-if they cannot it's because they are taking us for granted, time to look elsewhere!

They charge you 300$ for the sapphire crystal that is worth 30$ lol

Way too expensive and tends to be sold out. Not worth the asking price when you can get the same from an homage manufacturer and fit it with aftermarket seiko dial for under $250.

Why so much money when I can get a steeldive. Same design, more quality for the money and absolute workhorse of a movement.
