Thanks for the comprehensive review. I'd had this watch in my shopping cart for around 3 months, but I didn't want to pull the trigger on it without watching a review on the watch. So, yesterday I finally ordered mine cause I'm a fan of big watches.

I have no doubts that the Steeldive SD1978 Emperor Tuna 1000m watch would still work at 1,000m. The Seiko 1,000m Tuna version (which in all honesty is made to similar workmanship tolerances as the Steeldive, albeit with massive markup in price) reached 4,299 metres and still functioned. So 1,000m is relatively peanuts for the Steeldive types of watches with mega construction, and I would hazard a guess that the Steeldive 1969 1200m version of the Omega Seamaster would also still work at 1,000m. Remember all these watches are built to withstand and greatly exceed the depth figures stamped on the face dial. But in all honesty, free divers rarely exceed 200m and scuba divers reach a limit at 534m depths. Whereas most divers spend the majority of their time in the 5m to 20m zone, with a maximum of only 39m.

@@DieUhrenBox You want to see the hydraulic press channel. They made a test chamber able to be filled with water with a ram inside connected to you guessed it, their hydraulic press. They have a camera set up with a window on the pressure chamber side of the containment vessel (so if it explodes they're not all killed) and use the press to go up to 200 Bar in the chamber. All watches I've seen on there exceeded their pressure rating by a healthy margin. At the end of depth confirmation, they try to destroy the watches as they're all watches in the sub $500 price range. The results of most watches are actually very impressive. One cheap watch wouldn't even die at 200 Bar!

I really wish when these watches are regulated in the factories, they would regulate them to gain time rather than to lose time. I think most people would prefer a watch that is +5 seconds rather than a watch that is -2 seconds.

You can easily swap out only the milled part of the 5$ Clasp and keep the part with the Steeldive Logo. It works just like swapping a strap, the clasp is simply held together by springbars

Thanks for your comment and feedback mate 👍🏼 I know it could be done but I think Steeldive needs to improve it by themselves to keep up with Heimdallr, San Martin etc. and we got a new player like Thorn they will struggle in future a lot I think.

I'm same wrist as you. I wear mine on a waffle strap. The design is such that I can honestly say it wears smaller than the reviews, thanks to the lugs and tapered case. It is really solid, with fantastic bezel and good crown. It loses too much time for my liking however but correcting it is no biggie

@@DieUhrenBox Hydraulic press channel tested a 1000m cheap Chinese watch. They built a test rig specifically to test cheap Chinese watches and I can tell you they tested a 1000m watch and it easily, and I do mean easily, passed by more than 100% maybe even 150% beyond 1000m so 2500m. Excellent! You know my friend. I got a promotion ad from Ali Express for a new San Martin watch. I was so shocked when I read it, I can't even remember the watch except it wasn't cheap, made from Damascus Steel, but the shocking thing, the strap was made from Horse Leather!! For many that is as bad as using dog skin! I could not believe it. San Martin should learn what is and isn't acceptable in the west.

Thank you my friend! Oh the Damaskus steel one I saw that very expensive. I think and hope it was a dead horses skin to be hones otherwise it's just as mad at it can be...im just shocked about the new qc issues with San Martin it also got me on the new 41mm sub! The movement rotor is spinning like crazy and a Heimdallr issue and now read a missaligned Proxima watch. I will make a small video on those issues...i think the hype all over those brands got the company loosing on their quality control and this is not acceptable on the prices they actually asking for. I think it's to big and more important heavy for a Nato...you see the watch would move around or you make it too tight wich would be not comfortable anymore I guess 😉

it is better than Seiko marine master, with sapphire glass, ceramic bezel, no gap in Bazel ,Seiko is rubbish Bazel,move after each click the case is so nice

I have 6,5 wirsts, i was hoping for some sub-40 mm, even 36, but in the end it looks girly and vintage. I wasn't there in the Sixties, IMHO it's silly to look for vintage if It gives you no nostalgic emotions. A Tuna looks spot on on my wirst, and I ordered a bigger shroud...
