I wish i had this video two years ago when i changed out the pto on my 2001 345. That thing was FROZEN ON, heat did not work, lubricant did not help. Eventually i took a mini grinder and cut it down, got close to the crank shaft and scared the pto, then split the sleeve by twisting a chisel in the cut i made. Transmission pulley slid right down no problems, go figure. One thing I never thought of was to take my air hammer and hit the bolt like you did!

Good vid, I have a 345 that sat for awhile, got it running but now have oil coming out of the crank case breather hose and when I take the fill cap off it blows out of that pretty good. Trying to diagnose but doesn't seem to have been an issue prior to it sitting.

I’ve had this issue too and I use emery cloth real fine on the shaft if you can get the pto off and the pulley comes off easier and heating the pulley up is your last hope lol

I agree I should have sanded the crank after the pto clutch was removed. I have tried heat before with no luck

I polished the shaft extremely good before I try to get pulley off, any help is greatly appreciate when getting them off 😊😊

I have another question, i need to replace the water pump now due to a drip when the engine cools down. Do i uave to completely remove the engine or can i just remove the four bolts and lift the engine up slightly?

You should be able to just lift the engine

good vid . i removed the same engine from my jd320 rider (i broke the cam gear by using an impact wrench to remove flywheel) , very heavy engine .

Looks like wire to fuel solenoid is connected also Owell 😊😊😊

Yes, I saved them both, one is currently for sale and I'm using it until it sells, the other is just waiting for a carburetor cleen.

I have a question going the other direction. I have a clutch on a 345 that keeps breaking the bolt off. Which when lets the clutch fall off. We have put about 4 different bolts all from John Deere with the same thing happing. Any ideas?

I'm not 100% sure but I believe there is a bearing going bad on the clutch itself causing the bolt to break. Make sure you are using a john deere bolt and cupped washer to reinstall.

Does it have the retaining bracket properly installed? Also the bolt holding the Clutch to the Shaft, needs to be torqued to the right setting. The Bracket keeps the clutch, from trying to rotate when engaged. If not, it will rip out the wires as well. Then your Clutch will not work.

There is lots of options but I would just repower it with another 345 engine I have.
