They mostly bullshit about the costs or use some inhouse engines with bad optimization. Nowadays I play mostly Indie games. The only AAA games that excites me are from FROMsoftware, Capcom and R*.

It seems pretty obvious why large studios don't use stuff like this. For example, no one would buy CoD if it looked like this.

Because you can't throw buzzwords around and engage the zoomer audience.

One of the main reasons why corporations often avoid using free/libre software is that most community-driven software lacks an official support team of any kind, for these corpos having the ability to call in support and get an issue fixed asap is worth paying that premium. You have to remember that for software development companies having the product out on schedule is usually more important than even the lives and well-being of their employees, they have so many contracts with specific deadlines that they'll gladly throw more money at the problem until it goes away, specially because it's usually not their own money.

In developer scenes it gets the credit it deserves. Doom 3 was the first game which used normal maps made by John Carmack. When the game came out it won most of the awards. Players tend to forget it because it had no gripping storyline.

Doom 3 is just half life 1 6 years late

I said having interesting characters to interact with, interesting lore, good world design and backstories will make me like the game more and that was what i hoped to see. I didn't even demand them to be done that way, just HOPED it was another game that paid more attention to those details and I appreciated games that are like that. Everything was positive, not complaining about whether story is good or bad. An example is Mass Effect.

i love how theres no opening to selaco. more games should do this instead of starting with some boring opening sequence that goes on too long. it was neat when half life did it 25 years ago. now it’s just tedious

There's a whole Thief community that have been using it called The Dark Mod. It started out as a Doom 3 mod, but when they released the source code in 2011 they made it standalone. It's one of the coolest things about Carmack. Not just is he a genius, he makes his work public domain. Apparently there was some issue with ZeniMax and Carack started re-writing the Doom 3 source code to get around their licence on it lmao.

Id Tech 4 (Doom 3 Engine) is like the Holy Grail of game engines. I so badly want to see what Id Tech 4 looks like and how it works but there’s absolutely nothing online about it except a Czech translation, and most of its tools can’t run on newer systems or there’s no documentation on how to use them

@VendibleUser Id tech4 is public domain now. It's up on Github on the id Software page. Both the D3 and the BFG versions are up. There might be some old webpages about that still have tutorials up, but I've not looked into modding for it for over 10 years. I recall it being really easy to mod for.

Steam emailed me and said the game is now out of Early Access. But on the actual Steam page for Selaco, it's still listed as Early Access. WTF is going on? I do NOT want to buy an Early Access game.

The problem is that they can't use gzdoom on consoles due to licensing so it's not very likely.
