Yeah exactly. I think the ref ruined the match by calling him for being excessive or over aggressive. It changed the pace of the match. At least it seems that way.

He was gassed not even halfway through the 1st period... he couldn't have kept that energy for a full length match.

@@scottschnell851 to say the ref made him lose edge is a bunch of malarkey. Red still had the 1st round takedown despite the 1st 10 seconds of the ref saying "we're done". Red is a fantastic wrestler, but he loses his edge all by himself. I would love to see Red win a championship considering I watched him wrestle for 4 years in high school. In My opinion the ref did not make Red "lose his edge."

Lol yeah and they really called a stalling on Lance. I mean Lance has to be able to get to his feet there, but Cassiopi made no attempt to turn or improve position in the slightest.

Anyone know what Cassiopi actual weight is, everywhere I look it says 285 and that’s BS? He’s smaller than Gable and he is only 240ish. I’m guessing 220-215.

I was there and the whole crowd didn't really like the call either. I think it was because he almost took him off the mat and was too fired up and the ref didn't want anyone to get hurt. It doesn't make sense though because earlier an Iowa guy almost did the same and the coaches were slamming the mat in approval and the refs didn't really care.

Be patient you’ll get to see him lose at Big Tens and nationals. He worries more about pushing guys around than scoring points. Not very bright .

Lance was laying there like a slug the whole match, so yeah, I'd say a stalling call is warranted.

They never hit guys like Cassioppi and Warner for stalling when they just ride parallel and drive the opponent off the mat when they get up. Calling stalling on Lance there when Cassioppi is just laying on his hips was hilarious

@@andrewsalings7362 You are absolutely correct and It was 100% stalling on the top. He did nothing to improve his position, just held him while never getting out to the side. How the refs let him wrestle that way the entire 3rd period was embarrassing.

Agreed. Iowa's style is takedown first period stall the whole match. Look at these guys when they need a takedown, they can't do it, they don't know how to wrestle for more than one period.

@Football Oklahoma I do consider stalling calls to be a little different than a penalty in football, as generally they rule on the side of “letting them play” in wrestling vs calling heavy stalling. Also generally it’s seen as a good thing if a wrestler is dominating the match but not scoring bc the other wrestler is not engaging. Generally the gripe with stalling is that it isn’t called enough rather than penalties in football which are generally called too often

Bruh they have like 8 seniors starting and they've all been wrestling for so long. Only good one returning is Cassiopi but that man's strength improvement from two seasons is unnatural if you get what i'm saying.

@Football Oklahoma In estimating their ages, one should also consider that anyone red shirting like an epileptic matador is probably likely to have come from a family that holds their kids back so they're bigger in high school. So they're probably already 35;-D

Iowa isn’t winning the national championship. Between Spencer Lee being out and their inability to come through when it’s a close match, they’ll come in 3rd or 4th.

@@martinezjames83 Bruh the only way Iowa can win is if they put in a ton of conditioning. Those guys get a takedown first period, and then stall to win 3-2. In the matches where it is close and they need a takedown those guys are sucking in air.

@@donjuandecimo Yeah he doesn't look the same this year, do you not see the whole shoulder brace on his left shoulder? That and he doesn't go under guys as much for shots because of it. His hips are still some of the best hips. 2 weeks off and he's going to run the big 10s and be in the finals of the NCAAs again.

This ref is horrible. First of all, calling out hand fighting, its wrestling. Second off, sooo slow to react on the nearfall swipes. just horrible.
