Her voice got raspier as she got older. It was awesome. She was a mezzo soprano and I looked up her range was 2 octaves, 3 notes and A semitone (D3-G#5). @thundererswrath21854 жыл бұрын
It’s pretty clear that people are evaluating her voice without knowing her background. Singing in Spanish, the lower, heavier, resonant and powerful tones are what is necessary to sing the type of Latin music she sang. Quite frankly, you had a female of Whitney-esque power singing songs at a vocal level not really commonly used for the genre. This is why her lows are so well rounded. Her higher belt is there and stunning. Especially when you take into account that she’s dancing at full force, moving around the stage (in heels) and not missing a single note. I mean the disco medley had her hitting C5’s and Eb5’s effortlessly. Seen some other videos of Christina and other ladies straining to hit such notes just standing there! Selena wasn’t even concentrating on the notes. They just came out perfect because she was blessed by God with that AMAZING powerhouse voice. She had mentioned vocal lessons which I feel were to help her get used to her higher register. Her known range is a 3 octave 2 semi-tone range I believe. Frankly I think had she continued, she’d reach a fourth octave easily as she progressed with her training. As correctly stated here by our host, her head voice was bright and powerful. Could be piercing. Check out “A boy like that” which she recorded a month before she died. As well as “I’m getting used to you” which are all clearly in the Soprano range. Selena was clearly blessed with a voice that could go anywhere she wanted to. It’s a shame that we won’t get to see the true power that voice held. She wasn’t even trying and was already in the DIVA ranges. It’s a damn shame.....

With the genre of music she sang there wasn’t really room to really show case her vocal ability. I like how she was the only female in her genre at the time who incorporated R&B type of vocals into her performances. Her brother A.B who was also her song composer actually told a story about how he made a song called “La Llamada”. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/pdNjfrqe2qy2cXU.html He specially directed Selena to really belt out R&B style vocals for that song. Their dad (their manager) when he heard it for the first time was really shocked & a little upset with them because what she was doing in the song didn’t match their Tejano genre. Their dad wanted her to re-record the song but the record label liked the original recording & so they kept it the way it was. That song is what made her label EMI Latín finally agree to let her record an English album.
