I disagree. I think you can tell what someones dress is. If a bride would go alone they would probably pick the first one that they like or even just the first one that fits. I dont think that's right.

I'm a similar size and although I didn't really fuss about whether my wedding dress was "right" for me (i basically picked one i thought was pretty that was $125 on ebay), when i look at my wedding pictures all i see are big fat arms, a great sloping bosom, a big fat belly... it's a kind of imposter syndrome, i feel like i'm just a poser pretending to be a beautiful bride.

The NY version takes place in one of the most expensive cities in the US, and a lot of celebrities shop there- of course their styles are going to be more expensive. The prices in the Atlanta version are much more reasonable

Hate it when people start talking about which body types look good in what. If you’re curvy, you can look good in a fitted dress or a ball gown style or literally anything that is properly fitted to suit the silhouette. Who in the hell is anyone, much less a wedding dress consultant to say such remarks! The dress you described sounds similar to mine and I was overweight and only 5"2" and it made me look great. I do not have a big frame and am curvy and that woman not only should not be allowed to work in this field, but she is stupid. That is exactly the style that makes most women look beautiful! One big hitter is definitely the mother. I actually prefered the 2nd dress on her, but you have to go with the dress that gives her joy - and that all important confidence.

At 26 I started covering and removing my mirrors. I couldn't stand looking at myself. At 66 I still can't look at myself after decades of therapy. My mom gave me $200 for a wedding dress but I looked so horrific in everything. Ended up spending the $$ on tiles for my fireplace and $40 on a vintage black thrift shop dress I hated but could get into. I truely know what she's going thru.

I took one person because I knew better than to take my very opinionated family. I would've never chosen a dress & would've been in unhappy tears if I had.

And he even had to say to the mother do you want to hug your daughter! I am just the opposite, I have to hold myself back from hugging my 2 girls too much. I'm not at the wedding dress stage and just to share I grew up with 3 brothers, played sports with them, never really wanted to play with dolls, am very girly looking and love all feminine things etc., but having my 2 girls when little was like having dolls to dress up, ha ha. They also played multiple sports and the younger one, again, very girly looking but wearing black leggings, baseball hat backwards cut off at the waist T shirt, skateboard, you get the picture and not so into trying on dresses for her senior Prom - I always thought with her coloring she would look gorgeous in lavender, but of course would support her in choosing what she wants. The first dress she puts on, steps out of the dressing room and literally every mother there, including me gasped! Ha ha - it was lavender tool with a wide, horsehair hem strapless with same lavender appliques all over the bodice and it just zipped up like it was made specifically for her! She was smiling - it was amazing, then she asked if she could try on the other dresses - I was like "Of course!" It was like the heavens opened up and the angels were singing, ha ha! She chose the lavender dress!! OMG!

My mom and I picked out both of my wedding dresses, with no one else around. My first husband died and I was lucky enough to find another good man.

Jolynn - you are absolutely so right! I did the same thing, went to Kleinfeld's 27 years ago when it was in Brooklyn, NY driving from NJ with just my mother. I not only got my "Eve of Milady" dress I re-designed the sleeves to be off the shoulder ballgown sleeves so sit was actually an original - no one else had a dress like mine!

Touching story. Loved it. I went with my mom and sister to choose my dress. It will be our 20th anniversary in June. I'm sure I am older than you. I got married at 39, and people said we both looked in our late 20's not 30's!! We sure did . Sorry, talking about the dress , we needed no one else to hice an opinion. After seeing many dresses at the shop windows , I decided to try on the one I really liked. Pure magic. It was the one. My mom also chose the first wedding dress she tried on! She passed away 7 years ago, but I keep fond and loving memories of that day like you with your mom. Blessings!!!

wdym? her friends were right. they thought she would look better in sleeveless but they could tell she wasn't comfortable so it wasn't the right dress. and good thing too because if she had gone along she wouldn't have found that amazing dress that fit her like a glove and had everything she wanted.

I get what you’re saying and most cases that’s right but she wanted their opinions. Because she doesn’t have the confidence in herself and she wanted reassurance. Nothing wrong with their opinions they were honest, respectful and caring of her feelings

I agree. But when we look at ourselves we always bring ourselves down so we need an outside opinion. We cannot see ourselves fully without a mirror either. Others see us fully. So yes while we know what WE like, we also sometimes need the help of someone else's opinion and why you should only bring trustworthy people to these appointments, so they can tell us the truth and no jealousy hindering the judgement.
