🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation: 01:18 🧠 *The lecture explores self-disorders in schizophrenia, a relatively new topic in clinical psychiatry and research literature.* 04:31 🤔 *The notion of self involves a sense of subjectivity and individuality, with historical references to Kant and phenomenology.* 08:38 🔄 *Schizophrenia spectrum disorders show disturbances in the very basic self, involving first-person perspective and self-presence.* 11:30 🌐 *Research on schizophrenia patients revealed disturbances in common sense, leading to an investigation into self-experience.* 14:08 🧑‍🔬 *Patients with schizophrenia often report a sense of not being fully alive, feeling cut off from the world, and difficulties with common sense.* 16:08 📚 *The concept of self-disorders is not a new discovery, with historical roots in psychiatric literature, notably Broiler and Schneider.* 19:41 🔄 *Self-disorders in schizophrenia are considered trait phenomena, reflecting a stable change in the patient's consciousness infrastructure over time.* Made with HARPA AI

The German word mentioned at 14:20 appears to be Únterschied. Literally a translation of English word diffence. Took me a while to find that so hopefully helpful to someone else.

Close but the word was “Anderssein”. It’s a compound word made up of the adjective “anders” (other) and verb “sein” (to be). It can be translated as “otherness”. I only know because I studied German for 4 years ;) Edit: he also mentions “Ich-Störungen” later on which I understand as “self disturbances”.

What about eastern ideas about the self? Advaita Vedanta as Mooji describes it says the personal identity and attributes are not the ''Self" which is impersonal instead

I've had schizophrenia since I was 18 years old( 29 years now). The very first symptom I experienced was a self disorder; I've had it chronically everyday since I first got ill. What techniques can you use to help you feel better and help lessen that bizarre feeling?

Medication does not help at all with this feeling.

Unfortunately, we don’t know yet what is most helpful. For some medication seems to help, other benefit from Psychotherapy and psycoeducation. There are several ongoing research projects concerning the issue so hopefully we will soon know more.

My younger brother was diagnosed after ge failed 9th grade..and looking back, it was clear that he had something going on well before that. Right now I have a 12 year old daughter who keeps telling me that she sees a ghost. I don’t know if she has a issue with a sense of self? How would like that question asked?

Because you feel controlled by the outside. You are just a product or a slave of what they made you. You probably have only bad relations and are doped up with poison. Both leads to tremendous self-disorder. "Schizophrenia" doesn't exist, it's academic nonsense. Psychiatry is not science - it's a cult. You are now programmed, and maybe forced, to believe in it, but you can choose not to.

@@robandrews4815 drugs are related to schizophrenia spectrum issues. Other issues like poor enviorments, abuses like social abuse or put downs, aspbergers or autism, sleep disruptions, dealing with bipolar disorder or anhedonia and marijuana. Certainly all play culminating roles in developing these conditions which go on to ruin lives

It’s an impossible part of the illness to fix. Medicines certainly don’t touch it. Other hollistic things targeting mitochondrial function do touch it but it’s temporary. Science must develop meaningful and effective tx’s and medications targeting this.

This is just so silly, the mind does not work that way. It’s so much more complex than a medication.

@@natatattful yea I’m saying these conditions are extraordinarily complicated. I said medications DO NOT touch these symptoms but lifestyle interventions can significantly help even though you don’t think so. Aerobic Excersise does about 1000 things to the brain and body, and I’m trusting the scientists now a days who look at diet as a powerful neural stability or nutritional type lithium treatment for longCOVID, bipolar and even schizophrenia
