Ladysmith Harbour ,late october this barge makes two trips a week from the west coast of Vancouver Island around to Ladysmith to off load. This is done by flooding the ballast tanks on one side until the logs slide off.

I think I watched this in real life in Telegraph Cove in NE Vancouver island back in the early 1980s. I will never forget the first time I watched this as young adult and kept thinking something was terribly wrong until I kept watching it for the rest of that afternoon.

Great comments. Ocean clipper was the tug that frequented Draney Inlet past our float camp with them in tow. A little too fast one time we were a rocking 1967.

They've only been around for about 50 years on Canada's West Coast, they bring the logs down from upper Vancouver Island to the mills in Howe Sound north of Vancouver BC.

So they dump them in the water and then what? This is totally new to me. Do they send a crew out to collect them. Do they just never mind the ones that drift away or will they send a boat out to get them? I'm confused by nearly every aspect of this lol

Yes its a very West Coast thing-- "Boom" boats gather them into a corral then they are hoisted ashore by a chain convayer belt and directly onto the saw mill to be made into lumber..

Isn't it bad for the logs to be wet though?

Did you have live banjo players or was it recorded ?
@mralexdenny4 жыл бұрын
