Gaynor, I'm so glad you dropped in that video about frustration. It was really helpful. I am a relatively new artist in the past 5-6 years, and I started out mostly just trying to copy photos that I found online that I liked. I started taking an online art course a couple of years ago, and when I got to the point where I had to start finding my own artistic "voice" I got really stuck, and I've been in this stuck place for over a year. I've been binge-watching your videos tonight and I'm realizing that you work a lot like I work, on many paintings at the same time, bold colours - and even a lot of the subjects you paint are the things I love to paint - your style is similar to how I end up working on a painting after I've tried to "copy" another painting - where I get it all to look just "so", at which point I seem to just let go and go all loose and a bit wild and free and fun! So I'm finally going to bed feeling inspired to go back to some of my old works tomorrow and see where I can take them. Maybe I'll think about some of my "words" and paint them and stick them up on my wall for some inspiration. This has really been helpful! Thanks so much! (By the way, in one of the videos I watched tonight you said someone commented that you can't get the Stabilo Woodies in the US. You most certainly can! A lot of KZfaq artists in the US use them. I'm in Canada but I got mine probably on Amazon 3 or 4 years ago. The other thing I like to use are the Caran d'Ache Neocolor II water-soluble wax pastel crayons. I love scribbling on top of my acrylics with those, and then in some spots I use a wet paintbrush to blend it in a bit, but they are absolutely fabulous! If you don't have them I bet you'd love them! Your video this week reminded me of something ---several years ago an Artist friend & I were discussing our frustration over not being able to get our ideas or muse from our head to paper/canvas when a man said to us "Why do you paint --why don't you just take a picture of the subject & save yourself all the frustration." We both just looked at each other & burst out laughing with the knowing that he was right on some level but what's the challenge & fun in that!!!!

Gaynor i love watching your videos thank you for being you, I am an artist in New zealand and teach art therapy workshops and you are a breath of fresh air to me thank you, being our authentic selves in our art l feel is so important, to us as artist as well as ourselves in our every day life thank you for reminding that, be inspired by others but stay real to ourselves and our art.

I love how you kept working on your card experiments. It is so easy to quit when it doesn't go exactly how we want the first try, and this is another example of how it can turn out so beautiful if we keep experimenting and working through it. I hope your travel fills you with joy!

As usual, thanks for the honesty, energy and the beauty that naturally is expressed when you capture your 'realism' on camera. Oftentimes as artists, in the studio, alone, we flounder and fuss over nothing really. We need to step back and make sue we're being truthful in our expression on the canvas. Great ideas Gaynor! I just finished my first chair painting‼️I am really happy with it, and bought a shadow box frame. I will put it together this week. Never would have painted a chair so I have you to thank! I’m going back into another chair painting I did - something just not quite right… I have less and less anxiety about changing things now. Timidity never helps when trying something new. I love your work and am always intrigued to watch you adjust and adapt works, and I'm thinking No, no! and then it turns out beautifully! I especially love those two little pink works, and as you started to work with them again I'm saying No, but I know theyre in good hands. Thanks for showing your "excitable" clip. Youre right, we all go through those feelings. Also, I love the larger pink chair and have watched it transmogrify through many stages, but now it seems just right! I would love to have a tour of your studio.... so many paintings amassing for your show, I want to see them all! Im in NZ so no chance if actually coming to your exhibition unfortunately. Hi beautiful Gaynor wow I found you 2 days ago and I am thrilled. I definitely need to lighten up. I have a fear of wasting papers or something. I want to learn just shy of 68 and really getting started. I bought water color so I must use them. I wish I had found cc you before I went crazy buying water color paint and pencils and crayons. Lol.😍 I never do anything in a small way. I will get some cheaper or more affordable acrylics. It seems so scary to start. I made my friend a birthday card and only afterwards noticed the fold was on the right. So I gave it to her and told her it was a card for left handed people. Unfortunately she’s not left handed 😂

Such a great video this week. I enjoy the honesty of your journey from concept to complete. I think frantic, frustration, experimenting and fun helps us understand better the process. It helps us know it’s a normal process even for experienced artists to go through. I’m really enjoying all the beautiful bright pops of pink and lemon yellows. Feels good. Safe journeys- try to relax and soak up lots of inspiration.

Hello Gaynor. Have you tried blending with baby wipes on those cards. Can be used quite gently without wetting too much. Might or might not work, but maybe worth a try. Love those large stamps in your collection. Have a lovely holiday. Enjoy. X 💐

Need the word color B4 the word notes. Taking samples of each note nx 2, the painting keeps the eye aware of the movements created by harmony and contrast. More garden glimpses 😊 & why is there a green house? Is there another side to this story? Tea anyone, like to see U expand even into culinary. MayB another channel of GP at home.
