Rabbi, is "swear to me by the Lord" a vow? "In the Bible, two Israelite spies sent by Joshua to Jericho vow to protect Rahab and her family during the Israelite invasion in exchange for her hiding them from the king of Jericho. Rahab tells the spies, "I know that the Lord has given you this land. Please swear to me by the Lord that you will show kindness to my family. Our lives for your lives". The spies then hide in the hills for three days until the pursuers return without finding them. When they return, they tell Joshua, "The LORD has surely given the whole land into our hands; all the people are melting in fear because of us". - AI

I called it a vow, but really it is called a "neder" in Hebrew, which is more like a "commitment" to do something.

Thank you. It calls my attention that this Canaanite woman should have asked them to swear by the Lord...these "deaf men" whom she served in the tavern seem somehow known to her in this silence as perhaps the Lord of whom she speaks to them was known to her. No surprise she should have converted ...the fruit of a common bond in holy silence.
