Thanks All of you for very very useful information shared which I have never seen before anywhere. I play Sitar and very pleased to listening your conversation. I have a one question to you Naeem Bhai that when I play BAJ ki string it sounds beautifully on almost all the fret sirf 2-3 fret chod ke jahan Aisa lagta hai Awaz dab raha hai. Resonance nahi feel ho rahi hai. Kya reason ho sakta hai. Thanks in Advance for you feedback on this issue Unmessh

This indeed was a very helpful video. My name is Manoj. I have been playing Vilayat Khan style Sitar since 5 years. However I have few questions regarding the Jawari which were not discussed. 1) I have a Miraj sitar about 40 years old. It use to sound very loud & harsh because it's joints had started to open up according to my Guruji. Also it's Tabli was uneven. We replaced the Tabli & also changed it's Bridge and it's tone improved drastically. What if we use Ebony bridge instead of Sambar Horn? Will it soften the sound more in comparison with Sambar Horn Bridge? I don't want to sell this old Sitar as it's seasoned & a very precious gift from my father. 2) The meend sustain of this Miraj Sitar is less from DHA of Madhya saptak till all the frets below (Taar saptak) compared to the frets located on upper side. Is that because of improper jawari? Also the chikari strings sounds bit blunt. No such problem in my Calcutta Sitar (Radha Krishna Sharma & co.) which sounds very sweet. 3) Secondly all the tarab string run parallel on my Calcutta Sitar which is comparatively a bit shorter in length, having only 11 sympathetic strings. Can the longest tarab string be modified to run little diagonally?

Zoom is a bad way to communicate as people can speak at the same time interrupting one another. There is also a slight time lapse in exchanges as well, making it difficult for the transmission of questions and answers. It would be better for Sitar makers to make a video with close-up camera focused on the bridge to explain how Jawari is done. No need for people to ask questions.
