So right, "chill out about the noise". I will take a noisy picture over a blurred image every time. Naturally the shutter speed hand held rule is great but then factor in your subject because kids on the move, for instance, need 100ths or better easy. Great guide. I just nailed an a7iii body to get improved AF, battery, dynamic range, grip etc... I had planned to get the A7 iv but the IV is almost twice the price where I can get a good upgrade from my A7 ii for about £700, factoring in the resale of the ii.

How to shoot in lowlight: Take a zoom-lens with f4.0... Whaaaaat??? Please guys: if you want to want to have nice, crisp pictures in low-light get a prime lens! Shot at 1.4 or at least keep it at 2.8 or lower. Also on the Sony A7III with IBIS, do not use slower shutter speed then 1/100 sec, especially with long lenses such as 50mm or higher. And, even the Sony has low noise at high ISO, avoid going higher then ISO2000! You will end up with grainy and muddy pictures. I would be very interested to see some pictures (eg. from clubs or party) with the setting recommended here in the video (f4.0, 1/30 sec, high ISO)... And keep in mind: much more important than the camera is the use of the available light! If it is really dark, use backlit situations an take silhouttes of the people. If possible, bring a flash, that you put somerwhere wirelessly. It will improve your pictures a lot!!!

Yeah this is crazy. Most of the time 50 does the trick, you just have to move up or away from the subject and youve got a good shot. 1.8 is unbeatable paired with 1/100 and higher

You can set your A7iii to be able to view the ISO and exposure at the same time. I have mine set up using the wheel for easy access

Shooting a live band tonight. 2nd time. Thank you for your video. I have a question. Last time I shot in very low light. Stage lights. I was in AP consistent F2.8 ,24-70 lens. I had my SS set to minimum 1/250 and was using ISO 4000-8000. Got some nice shots but I’m hoping to get sharper shots tonight. Should I use a SS of 1/60 and just set iso to auto? Or will that shutter speed just be too slow? I understand all shoots are different. Just looking for some guidance. Thank you.

If you change the dial mode so u can change the iso while rotating you will be able to see the exposure indicator as you go through different iso values.

yeap!! a7iii is great for low light use!so, people, dont afraid lens that f4 is max open aperture, Sony a7iii can handle it just fine!! keep up great work!!

Modern scene modes on most post-2012 cameras will typically work 90% of the time for lowlight photography. Sometimes you might need to create an image stack using manual mode if the scene is extra challenging. Just don't fall into the trap of thinking manual mode = professional.

In summary Shutter speed = 1/highest focal length Lowest F stop ISO = EV0 Would have appreciated much more if this video was 1 minute long not dragging to 7mins
