It is astonishing the way he puts such passion, energy and soul in every single note. His artistry is often overwhelming.

Absolutely beautiful. Many thanks. In the year 2000 I rode my motorcycle from southern Ireland to Newcastle on Tyne to hear Julian, he was giving two concerts for the national Trust in Consett, the only time I ever heard him live, unfortunately I did not get to meet him. Many thanks again. Gérard lacey in Ireland.

Whatever piece he is playing he takes you straight to the heart and soul of that music and you are instantly spellbound, he has a frightening awe inspiring power over the instrument. Thanks for posting.

Yes i love them, so insightful and a masterclass not just in guitar but musical analysis and a glimpse into his incredible mind.

In 1980's, I also recorded this performance from FM broadcast in Japan. But the cassette tape has been lost for many years. I am really thankful you shared this brilliant concert!

Fabio Zanon Yes, I have posted a couple of others. I've grouped my 50 or so radio broadcast recordings into a playlist on my channel, so have a look. I have some other Bream broadcasts I've yet to transfer.

Thank you again. Do you happen to have his BBC recordings of Humphrey Searle's Five and Tom Eastwood's Ballade-Fantasy? I used to have those but they seem to be lost.

I have a the broadcast where he played Weiss, Bach, Searle, Falla, and Arnold. I shall try and transfer it after I come back from holidays. I live in Oxford, UK, and I remember you once played two concertos in one night at the Sheldonian Theatre - you are long over due a visit back!

RIP, Maestro. I remember recording this on a C120 back in the day. The Beeb must have plenty of Bream archives, maybe time to dust some of them off. So good to hear the de Visee, which really deserves to be heard and played more. I remember hearing him play it at the Sheldonian in '92.

Not sure how many of these old programs they kept, probably not many. I've been to many concerts at the Sheldonian, always sensible to take a cushion for the cheap seats!

No, Michael was his first son and Britten Godson. Personally I prefer father less modern pieces, ie the Sonatina, but Bream makes this movement more than a very interesting piece yet challenging for the 80' large audience that appreciate his striving commitment to new music for guitar.

I saw Julian in concert in Eugene Oregon in the late 1980s or early 90s. I saw the top of his bald head most of the time. ;-)

Julian was a sarf Lundun boy wiith that accent which he he was instructed to drop by his proff. at the RCM. Learn to speak like a gent or you will never have a career. He did but it never sat well with him. the south london boy was all ways there just below the surface.
