You should livestream your debut gig somehow. Or film it and put it on here.

Matt Russell Actually, having a website that bands/artists do Livestreams of their concerts would be awesome! Except there would be a lot of flaws.

Unless you're headlining a venue to a few thousand people, I'd keep the sets under an hour. The standard is normally 30 mins for support, 45 for headliner. Although 'pub gigs' tend to break this by giving one band a tonne of time, as they are used to covers bands...

The Music Lab lol, what are you talking a bout??? my family has been in the business for decades, and 90 minutes is the norm for my godmothers band at any place they have played in Europe. Trust me, it wasn't for thousands of people. If you plan on getting paid a decent amount, it seems like 2 times 45 minutes, or one set of 90 is standard.

If you're only selling tickets to family and friends, how do you get new fans from gigs? While I agree selling out a show is awesome (and potentially very profitable), doing it this way doesn't offer much room for gaining fans. I think this is where opening for well- known bands is good for bands.
@TheMusicLab
@TheMusicLab 7 жыл бұрын
By saying you sold out your first gig, And therefore proving you can move tickets you're far more likely to get great support slots! Create yourself a solid fanbase from people you know, then focus on growing it!

To me it makes more sense to play a bunch of gigs as you start out and build up a crowd. If you want to play for your friends and family just throw a house party

@TheMusicLab
@TheMusicLab 7 жыл бұрын
You don't need any recordings to get gigs, live or studio. You can just contact local promoters!... That being said if you wanted to set one up yourself just pick a good venue in your city that holds 80-100 people!

Something I've been curious about for a while is how do you play other cities when you're a small band but following these steps of playing a small amount of shows because like you said it's hard for a support band to gain a lot of buzz about their band because they're not the headliner but in other cities you may not have many contacts there who can come to your show so it would be a bad idea to headline as you wouldn't be able to cover your costs

James O at a very low monthly payment Distrokid can get your music copyrighted and can also handle licensing for you music as well. AND they also distribute your music to iTunes, Spotify and 100 other music outlets and you keep 100% of your royalties

What is this cycle where people are playing live in front of an audience but not gaining more fans? That makes no sense. Even if there are fewer people, at every single gig, there should be at least some. Even if there's just one person, that should be one more fan that you gain. If you're playing in front of audiences and people aren't liking it, do you really think that, its the performing that's the issue? Like wow, nobody liked my music, that's because I was not playing to enough people? wtf.

I don't think, provided you can get gigs, that you should stop yourself because of your age! A band local to us were gigging since they were 12 and had signed to a major label before they were 18! Don't let it stop you!

If your band is essentially not performing at all. (1-2x) per year, and I guess relying only on online marketing to have people here your recording.. I guess it doesn't really matter why even bother with all this. You're only playing a live show once in a while, you're not really a live performing band.
