We moved to Star, Idaho before everyone else does! • MOVING TO STAR IDAHO S...
I've been in Arizona for 8 glorious years but the time has come to load up the family and the truck and move to another state. Having a baby during the during the covid-19 outbreak has been quite difficult and the 116 degree heat doesn't help the situation. We are leaving family and friends and our dream home behind so this has been an emotional decision to say the least. We are very excited for our next chapter though as we look towards a place with 4 seasons, where you can snowboard in the winter, wakeboard in the summer and mountain bike most of the year. A place where the beer flows like wine (j'k, dumb & dumber reference). We are moving to Boise, ID! The market is booming up there and we're hoping to get in before the rest of the west does! I look forward to future adventures and many more videos up in the potato state!

What's up everyone!? So stoked to have you here at the Active Dad community! My name is Jimmy and I have an amazing wife named Meg. We live in Arizona with our son, Brady, that was born in January of 2020. He such a sweet, happy boy and has learned a lot already. We got him a helmet to fix plagiocephaly around 5-1/2 helmets so be sure to follow along with his progress! My wife and I are both very active people who love camping, hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, wakeboarding and many others. Probably the thing that I'm most excited about with being a parent, is teaching my kids about all the fun activities there are to do in this world that I love.

Very seldom does it get 120° the highest temperatures will be in June and first part of July with dryheat. With the monsoon season July through August the temperatures drop but the humidity rises. I’ve been here since 1982 in the southern desert and worked outside most of my career as a mobile mechanic but you learn to structure your day to do your outside work in the morning hours, cause at 6:00am the temperature can be 90° in June. I don’t know why this guy’s wife doesn’t want to be here when she’s not working outside the home. We raised four kids in Arizona and three of them are still here with their own families.

Did you know that Arizona's education is ranked #46 out of 50? Not great for a young family. Did you also know that in 2020, Phoenix saw a record number of days over 100, 110 AND 115 and that weather experts predict that it could hit over 130 degrees regularly in Phoenix in the second half of the century? Didn't want to wait around to see if that became a fact and watch my home value decrease. Here's a fun read for you...www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings?int=top_nav_Overall_Rankings

@@ActiveDad you seem to be trying to defend your personal decision to move to a location you didn't even visit. Yes, starting out in a new location is exciting when you've decided to hate where you've been living. People live all over the place, so because of personal, business or family (etc.) reasons people live where they live. Many people live in a town, state, region that they don't like but got stuck because of family, job or lack of funds and so on. Hana Vesely liked their decision to move to AZ. I live in a suburb of Chicago and I know what Hana is talking about. AZ is my first pick if I get to finally move from this very low rated state. The Chicago Machine rules and is taxing people to death.

I've lived long enough to see most of their predictions turn out just a little different than what they proclaimed at the top of their lungs. Just make your decision and run with it. Lived in The Valley of the Sun for a few years. I still have relatives from Tucson to Mesa to Pine-Top Lakeside; so, AZ has a special place in my heart. The summer gets hotter and hotter each year. The traffic and the pollution, especially in Phoenix, has become more like L.A. traffic. Yet, one cannot deny the natural beauty of Arizona. Superstition Mountains to Flagstaff to the Grand Canyon, just absolutely beautiful. Though I never thought of Idaho, I have know several of my colleagues that hat have retired and moved there. I live in AZ. Decades ago, my employer sent to me up to Boise in October to help figure out why a franchisee was having a hard time. I absolutely LOVED Boise - and that was even a long time ago. The air was so fresh in October that I felt as though I was breathing in a Tic-Tac. The place was clean. The people were wonderful. And what struck me the most, I think, is that Boise was a small city that felt so much larger (in every good way but no bad ways). I hope you like it up there!

BOISE is one of the hottest cities on the market right now. I've lived in Sacramento (loved it) and I also lived in Colorado for 14 years (Boulder & Loveland -- couldn't stand the cold and snow OR the barren landscape). Also lived in Tennessee & Omaha, NE (loved those places too.) I can see why you love this home so much but I can understand the issues with heat and raising a family. Your videos are very helpful for the information you share as well as entertaining to watch. 👍

I moved from Kentucky to Oro Valley 3yrs ago, do not regret it at all. Kentucky is pretty only 6mos out of the year, that's just the look not the weather. Let me explain, from October to late April it's brown and dead looking because the plants go dormant from the cold. The other 6mos are green and pretty, but it rains at least 3 to 4 days a week, literally twice as much a year as Seattle lol. The ground so wet it's like walking on a sponge. The winters can be brutal, -20 degrees windchills, the Summers can be 115 to 120 with the heat index. So I'm fine with the heat which is not as bad as Kentucky to me. You can't get away from the humidity even in the shade back east. Here in Southern Az the weather is awesome almost the whole year, plus there are 9000ft mountains next to us to see snow, and come back down to 70 when you get tired of it. To each his own. Good luck and enjoy life, it's short 😎

So when I decided to move, I had one great friend here! We visited Star so many times. Bought fishing licenses at the Star Merc! Her husband taught me to fly fish and we fished down by the Star bridge! Go to work, and come home and go fishing! Such a great lifestyle. I left AZ for the same basic reason you did....could no longer take the heat (and traffic and commute to work). My wife is from Idaho and I’m from Southern California. I lived in Idaho for four years and believe me the winters are long and cold. Housing prices have been driven so high by people like you moving there. The cost of housing has been driven higher than what the average Idaho worker can afford. If and when the housing bubble bursts you better like living there and you better like the house you buy.
@kassie4426
@kassie4426 2 жыл бұрын
Housing prices are high for multiple reasons... Shortages on wood and other things to build houses, inflation, and Millennials who make up the majority in the US are leaving cities and flocking to cheaper places because they want to buy houses. I'm from southern California too and everyone keeps saying how its all our fault but like I stated there's multiple reasons as to why the prices on homes are sky high.

Agreed. After watching it snow May 1st many years ago in Coeur d' Alene I said to myself, I have to get out of here. At that time jobs didn't pay shit, and I suspect they still don't. Even healthcare wasn't common. And here's the thing many may not think about. Your income in your working years affects your social security in retirement. So it affects your entire life. I moved away to an area where I could make much more money, and as a result I will also receive much more social security.
@dh2392
@dh2392 2 жыл бұрын
@@kassie4426 but a lot of it is the fault of Californians, and I say that as someone who grew up there. California has some of the highest housing costs in the nation, so a Californian can sell their home, move to another State almost guaranteed to have lower housing prices, and they can pay cash, even bid up homes they really want, often far above what locals can afford. Too many expats in areas of Mexico for example have done the same thing, drive up rents, and home prices because they have more money than the local people do.
@kassie4426
@kassie4426 2 жыл бұрын
@@dh2392 And how do you think California got to be so expensive? Everyone from other states and other countries came here in huge numbers for years. I understand that California is playing a part in AZ home prices rising, but that's because Californians can't afford it here because everyone else drove up our price of living. There's a lot of factors as to why Arizona is becoming expensive. California is just a fraction. People from all over the US are moving to Arizona because the majority of the country are Millennials who can't afford homes. Inflation is another problem. Houses are expensive everywhere right now. The snowbirds are also a problem since they buy second homes in Arizona.

@@kassie4426 as far back as I can remember, California has always had some of the highest housing costs in the US. Why? The weather of course. I also wanted to moved out of Phoenix because of that unfair heat weather. And not only that, I also hate Phoenix because the neighborhoods. Especially Maryvale. The reason why Maryvale may suck is the neighbors. They stare at me, they yell or sometimes they even try to be your boss which seems annoying. Another two reasons why I hate phoenix is because I struggle to get friends, I feel like I'm the dumbest person in this city because I don't really communicate with no one because of the extreme shyness. Also I remember that I was the most bullied student in 7th grade. Also my family seems to act like if I wasn't even human. I feel like I wasn't even a skilled person in Phoenix because I didn't dare to join clubs in school. The reason why I didn't join any club in school because I feel like I was just a noob like i was never going to be able to practice even if I was focusing. Sometimes I was the wrong one. I remember that I used to take my dog out without the leash and so that's the only reason I agree why are the neighbors getting scared. And one more reason why we hate Phoenix is because we're one of the most stressed out families in Phoenix Arizona. and again because the hot weather doesn't even let me take a walk at the noon. I feel like I'm locked in the house for the whole day because of the hot weather, The neighbors who yell me for everything for little to no reason, and the pandemic that also sucked here because there was nowhere to at least cool down such and pool or stuff.

I saw you commented another time but may have deleted it but it's funny to see all the salty people commenting that Arizona heat isn't that bad. I assume these people grew up or live in Arizona so I get it but I bet there isn't one person who doesn't live in Arizona saying, "Oh I bet 50 days of 100+ and 90 degrees in March isn't that bad." I don't know if everyone realizes that in 2020, Phoenix not only hit the record for most days over 100, but also most days over 110 and 115. Weather experts predict that Phoenix will be unlivable as early as 2050.

I'm out by Bullhead and it is the hottest part of the state. My neighbor decided to go grocery shopping in 120 degree weather...he was wheelchair bound. He couldn't make it back up his ramp, fell out of his chair and died. I found him. I'm old too and walk with a cane. After 30+ years of living here I am very afraid and dread the summers.

From MA and have lived in Arizona for about 10 years. Definitely agree with you about the heat and having to drive up north to cool off. Not only that, we have a lot of scorpions in the yard and sometimes in the house. Love the state but know a lot of people that have moved because they want a change of seasons and to live in a greener state.

Wife almost stepped on a scorpion 🦂 right next tour bed barefoot! Found about 6 scorpions in our house in two years even though we had a guy spraying around the house every other week. With babies crawling and running around right now, I’m glad I don’t have to worry about scorpions anymore.

Built a home in Moon Valley section of Phoenix, Az. Lived & worked there 20 years. 1976-1996. It is so dry hot. Once 122 degrees. We had aerators on our giant pool yet still very warm, lemon trees & lush backyard near a park. Now, living west coast Florida 22 years in a gated 55 + community. Air like velvet, less dangerous, less crowded. Just remember you sit in a sauna but you don’t sit in an oven. Phoenix heat awful. My father summed it up on a visit from Massachusetts in August. On landing @ Sky Harbor, as we left building, he said I have landed in hell. Jeanne

I think you’re capitalizing on the real estate boom and advertising your home on KZfaq. The heat only lasts 4 months and if you have A/c it’s no big deal. This is just a real estate video to capitalize on the excessive price in AZ right now

When I lived in Phoenix, I was using my A/C like 6 months of the year since my apartment was small with only one window so there was no air circulation. The summers suck but it's nice 8 months of the year there. Monsoons can cause bad flooding so I hated driving during storms last year!! It was always fun going to spring training and D-Backs games!

I didn't know a newborn needed to go out all the time in a pandemic, like any other state covid have been a problem but no like to move out of the state, people from other states are coming here because there is no a better life in other states either, but if that makes you happy, just enjoy your life!

I moved to Colorado in 2009 and I wanted to move back to Arizona pretty soon after that move. I hate cold and snow. It's a mess and there are about 8 months of winter here. You sound like you could handle it with what you want to do. Not me. Hoping to get back to AZ soon and have plans to travel in the summertime to cooler temps or get a place up north where it's cool. I lived there for 31 years and consider it my home. I understand your reasons. Good Luck!!

Stumbled upon this video, ironically. I'm a 35 year resident of Arizona, my husband even longer. This house looks like a TWLewis home, really similar to ours. We have 1/2 acre, we built it and it's gorgeous. However, it's too large to care for and....the heat. A few years ago, we bought a summer home in northern California and we're preparing to move there fulltime. Mild weather, regular neighborhood, tons of outdoor activities and, oddly-enough, going to be cheaper to live there. I'm purging and packing and crying a lot. I get it. I will miss so much about living in Phoenix. You've got to make the right choice for your family and I hope it's all good in Idaho.
