Thanks so much for all your questions, I hope you enjoyed this chatty video! Don't mind the little bit of lag in my brush strokes - my computer doesn't like screen recording and drawing at the same time 😅And if you'd like access to my art videos and tutorials then consider joining me over on Patreon: www.patreon.com/mimimooillustration 🥰🌷

This was so reassuring to hear! I feel like I'm on a similar path as you were a few years ago, sharing my art journey from scratch on youtube bit i have quit my job to become a full time mum as nursery fees are so expensive nowadays. Before i shied away from pursuing yhis type of career because i believed every negative comment. But now i realise i have nothing to loose and i will never know whether itll really work without giving it a real shot for myself. I am spending all my spare time to develop my art style so i can make a pivot in my career to become and author-illustrator for children picture books. I can't guarantee I'll succeed because sales isn't something I can control, instead I focus on what I can do, at the moment that is to take the first step seriously and find my own 'art style' which I can't wait to forever nuture and grow! Thank you for your videos, they remind me it is possible too! ❤

This was such an honest and unbiased video, I really appreciate it because I sell on Etsy and work full time, but would love to be independent one day. Too often I see videos that make it seem like you’re a horrible person for selling on Etsy, but for many of us it’s an easier way to start. I don’t have the audience right now to pay for a Shopify store. I also agree too for international stuff they take care of the taxes and such for us. I think as well there’s still this unrealistic hustle culture permeated into KZfaq. We don’t know everyone’s background, but they push that you have to always be on and working, which leads to burn out and I need to prioritize self care at times. I really loved this video, thank you!

What are you watching that depicting Etsy sellers as horrible people is a common occurrence? I have never seen a video or artist speak very negatively of Etsy, rather promote it as a great place to start if you have no audience. The negative part is only its high fees, especially once your shop gets popular which is why it's better to create your own website once you have an audience.

My guess would be Mikhaela because I know someone with this name and they pronounce it "Micha"(mee-shah) I love your videos and art style. Thank you for all the non-illustration videos. I'm a late bloomer in getting my creativity and art life together but hey, better late than never. You've helped this old lady get into a different mindset, which is now, full steam ahead. Namaste.

I completely agree with what you’re saying about art styles. I’m currently working on creating a consistent art style, I know a lot of creatives say that it isn’t necessary but it can be really difficult to get commissions if people can’t visualise what you might create for them 🥺❤

I used to think about consistency as drawing things in the same way every time, like for every eye you draw it’s the same as the last one. Now, I think art style consistency in things like shapes and lines is a lot more beneficial. It also feels a lot more freeing when you’re trying to improve and you’re not completely tethered to the same eye every drawing. I have tendencies when it comes to subject matter, but focusing on lines and shapes has been one of the most beneficial things for my art ^^ It’s like I was focusing on the wrong thing whenever I heard the word ‘consistency’

Thank you so much for answering my question and your honesty :) I feel like sometimes the job of an illustrator and some other people's success in art is being romanticized and keeps away from the reality of risks and hard work that need to be made. I also love the answer to the question about sharing another art style to your audience I think that experimenting and changing is the point in arts and I am looking forward to seeing your growth

I live on Brazil and want to live with my art like you, also want to start doing things seriously but I have to study and so stuff of school and almost don't have free time to it. But I hope that one day I will be able to live my dreams of being a artist and a KZfaqr.

I do worry if my artstyle chnage or unrecognisable. This is my part of my improvements, I am still in experimental stage. Which I still looking for feedbacks and outcomes, if they like it or not. Because I create a plan what to draw and when to draw this tactic helps me to understand outside my experience. Maybe this helps, just don't rush to be successful continue to experiment and see the best results.

I'm eager to hear your outlook on how AI will impact your work in the coming years. Are you concerned about your style being "stolen" or mimicked by AI? Are you anticipating clients resorting to AI over human-made designs? Are you going to integrate AI into your workflow? Are you already using any AI software? Whatever its shortcomings are today, it looks like AI progresses at breakneck speeds. And in a capitalist system for a human artist in a world where AI makes art faster and cheaper, I don't know of a more pertinent topic than examining an artist's place in an economy with artificial creativity.

Thanks for your very informative videos. I went to art school many years ago, graduating in 1997. I am classically trained and to be honest wouldn't be comfortable sharing on social media as I've heard that sites like Instagram exposes you to art theft and some KZfaqrs have said that they were so pressured and gave it up. I am more into writing and illustrating picture books, having also studied creative writing and children's literature at uni. I don't know whether to go down the self-publishing route or traditional. I am considering selling some of my characters as POD images before marketing the books. I have uploaded my work to Photoshop but really struggle to get to grips with the tech. Which digital program do you suggest for a beginner? 💗
@MimimooIllustration
@MimimooIllustration Жыл бұрын
Photoshop is great but has quite a learning curve if you haven't used it before, lots of beginners use Procreate because it's specifically for art so that could be something to try?
@mrs.quills7061
@mrs.quills7061 Жыл бұрын
I second procreate, but you’ll need an iPad for that. It’s super easy to use! I also use a program called clip studio paint too. And honestly, anywhere you post or share your work it can be stolen. It’s not just IG. Don’t let that hold you back from sharing it.
