Wow, when you were talking about copper wire selling for over $4 a lb I thought WHAT!!. so I paused your video, made a call and found out their paying #1 copper tube $3.75 and #2 tube $3.45. ( the price just dropped .20) I have about 2000 lbs of #1 and #2 copper and about 1200 lbs of wire. Time to cash in. Thanks for the vid. Subscribed.

Tim man I took a lot from this video. I have a similar amount of copper to bring in and all the tips and info are really helpful. Especially shop around b/c I have been...and shall I say am "unsure" about certain scrap yards and their prices. Great video. I'm a scrapper from Ireland which I've probably already told you. They even gve me a special deal, offering to put it in as “mixed copper” (priced inbetween nr.1 and nr.2), because I’m the toungest regular. This way I was payed €6,10 (I believe CA$8,95) instead of around 5 bucks, or CA$7,30 if I’ not mistaken.

best way to get the best price for copper is to try and buy yourself a crucible and furnace kit. Melt the copper down into ingots and you'll get the highest value out of your copper. At the end of the day at the scrap yards, they literally just throw all of that copper into the same furnace to be smelted all together. They rip you off with the lame ass categories since most of the contaminants will turn up into slag at the surface.
@TinManScrapper
@TinManScrapper 19 сағат бұрын
I agree, but unfortunately some yards will not buy melted ingots because they question the materials purity. I got to.d by the guys at the yard I should not have have put my wire into spools like I showed in the video. I kinda laughed and said it was the only way to maximize space. They still took it but still ran a magnet down random spools.

@@TinManScrapper that would be awesome! I learn a lot from your videos. I’m curious if that many people usually send their boards to shred since shipping and buyers are an issue unless they are close. If thin wire coating and difficult to hand strip yes leave it on.

As for the question about taking outer layer off, yes it does increase value to 60% copper recovery, but depending on the type of wire, you could lose money from the weight of the outer wire. Thick microwave chords for example are better leaving on outer layer and getting 40% recovery

I live in a pretty rural county in East Tennessee and there is only like one spot that I know of in the county that buys scrap and they're basically fucking robbing people around here cause I guess they're taking advantage of the fact that some people can't afford to travel 40+ miles to find a scrap yard that's paying a half decent price. Someone I talked to that recently took of a little load of copper said this place was giving $2 a pound for #1 and $1 a pound for #2!! That's pure robbery compared to the prices you've listed here. BUT I did just now look online for some price info for Tennessee scrap prices and it is quite low. Online it says #1 Copper Scrap - $2.49/lbs, #2 Copper Scrap - $2.29/lbs, and #1 Copper Bare Bright Scrap - $3.10/lbs....these are all average prices state wide apparently.
@TinManScrapper
@TinManScrapper 9 ай бұрын
Remember too I am giving prices in Canadian dollars, but still sad to see your price list. It is amazing looking at copper prices in the US state to state. I would just stockpile until you had a huge amount and then bring in when worth it for the extra drive. I do that since the prices I get 45 minutes away are almost $1 more a pound for the same material.
@terrancepemberton4648
@terrancepemberton4648 9 ай бұрын
@@TinManScrapper yup, like you said best to stockpile til you got a large amount to make it worth your while to travel. It's the same here in my area....the best place I know is also 45 to 50 minutes south of me but pays $1 more per pound. 4 or 5 years ago I used to do A LOT more scrapping than I do now(prices were better then). I used to scrap a little bit of everything but not anymore. But any chance I get to acquire some scrap copper I still always snatch it up lol. I might have 120ish pounds at the moment.
