Dangerous Railroad Overpasses. Semi Truck Barely Fits Under One & 2 Other Overpasses Are Not Passable by Semi Trucks. Abandoned Railroad Yard With Maintenance Of Way Equipment Stored. These Are Norfolk Southern And CSX Trains south of Chillicothe, Ohio.
First we are at an area known as Greggs Hill. We see a railroad underpass that used to be a DT&I line that goes under an old CSX line that used to be Chesapeake And Ohio Railroad. We see a Norfolk Southern ethanol train at a railroad crossing that is just down from a CSX railroad bridge. We also see a CSX ethanol train cross that railroad bridge.
While we are still at Greggs Hill we see an NS grain train go over a low overpass. Right when I was talking about how long it appears when semi trucks go under it, a semi just happened to pass. It looks low to me, how about you?
Then I drive under another low overpass. This one looks like a tunnel. I got in the weeds at Greggs Hill and filmed a CSX coal train passing by. That was not easy to film due to the heavy vegetation. I reached my arm out as far as possible to get past the weeds.
Then I find another low CSX overpass just up the road. A CSX locomotive power move is seen and then we see an abandoned DT&I yard in Waverly. One of the tracks is still used by NS to store maintenance of way equipment. Check out the cool insulator that I found in perfect condition.
Then we see yet another interesting railroad overpass on the NS Heartland Corridor. This one is close to Chillicothe, Ohio. I got lucky to catch a fast eastbound coal train going over.
After that we see the pets, Brianna and the slide show.
Filmed Friday, September 1, 2023 in 1080p with 60fps. Thanks for watching!

Last DT&I (GrandTrunk) train to interchange at Greggs Hill and Waverly with CSX and NS was March of 1987. If anyone knows the date of the last train it would be nice to know. They were accessing this isolated section of DT&I track via CSX trackage rights from Washington Court House via ex B&O to Chillicothe then ex C&O to this area from 1981 on.

Yeah, it's safe but it just looks close. I think its 6 inches clearance . @@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars

The maximum height of a semi tractor-trailer rig is 13 feet, and 6 inches. The semi that went under the Norfolk Southern overpass was 13' 10" and there was 4 inches of clearance between the semi and overpass.
@jamesmurphy9346
@jamesmurphy9346 11 ай бұрын
Semi's are 13'6" from road to trailer top. Some states clearance signs are less than the actual height to give a little more room. Even then the Truck drivers have to be careful about rough roads tat would make the trailer bounce or state roads paving the road , lessening the clearance.

I never thought of that but if they bounced that could be bad lol

A very remote area but still a great crossing, the abandoned yard was kind of spooky but looked really nice, the low bridge is great for small vehicles but big trucks not so great and always great to see your cat, dogs and other pets, as well as your family and the slideshows of the trains Thank You Jaw Tooth.🤠👍🇺🇲 1🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🇺🇲💨

That particular spot was a gem for train spotting in the 60's and 70's, I use to record audio of Steam locos during the excursion era (70's &80's) and that spot was where i captured #611-J/N&W early morning with heavy fog, his whistle had a full 2 to 3 second delay after blowing due to the echoes facilitated by the hilly terrain, I still have that audio

Wow this is probably my favorite so far! I like all the remote lil spots and the added adventure. these are really fun videos to watch. fun going for a walk down the tracks and exploring, I would stick around and get some souvenirs when they decide to tear all that up. those 1922 plates would be nice, I can remember when I was a kid you would find those glass insulators laying around everywhere... never thought twice about it then.

I think that DT&I used to go through Springfield. In the 80s it was GT and there were a quite a number of trains going through, even in the early/mid 90s. Now it's just 2 trains a day going to and from Findlay from Washington Court House. The trains stop at a siding north of Springfield and the trains swap crews so they can be home every evening.

Brian, that “yard” is the old DTI interchange and mainline that crossed 23 in downtown Waverly via a long ago removed bridge. The track the MOW equipment is sitting on is actually the spur to the old pallet loading dock from the old Oak Chips factory. There is a ballast loading operation still in use on the north NS part of the yard at the NS maintenance facility where Market St dead ends. Awesome video son! 👍

"Fun" video JT...in the "wilds" of Ohio!! Over there in Waverly, that abandoned yard with the MofW equipment was oh-so cool...I could've spent "hours" there!! Love that stuff. That ex-ConRail "TrailVan" is a rarity. It (most likely) started-out as a Penn Central TOFC (i.e. "piggyback") unit...they once had dedicated trains of those things known as "TV" trains (carried over from the NYC service born as "TrailVans"). The trailers were built exclusively for NYC (and later, PC) by Fruehauf...a major manufacturer of highway trailers in the 1960's. ConRail continued the "TV" service past the Penn Central era. 👌👌

Just another case of too many railroads going to the same place and DT&I lost out. Same thing happened out west between NP, GN and MILW with MILW losing out. The shot up on the bridge was cool and the low bridge almost needs a shoe horn for the trucks. Nothing wrong with a CSX toot salute. At your location in Waverly Google maps shows a wye, maybe the reason for NS keeping it. Excellent video as usual, enjoyed it much. Thanks JT!

Those Hills and Valleys certainly have high number of strange Bridges especially the sharp curves and limited height. Most likely that first CSX Bridge is where my friend has a picture of a C&O.2700 series I believe steamer Circa 1939. That tracks slinking down between the two main lines is just fantastic and when located in such close proximity to the highway and a drainage ditch make it that much more interesting. The Miniature yard is unique in that there does not appear to be any large industry in the area lower the tracks covered in Coal as if it was a mining area. Were there some small branches that converged here? It has been a while since the train went down there but the condition of the tracks and especially the cranes is actually pretty good. That first crane even has the mid-1960s N&W emblem. Probably a good place to go back to before the snow flies but after the leaves are off the trees and bushes. A most worthwhile Expedition into a laid-back area and it's always fun to watch Norfie chase the mystery tail
@user-dw7lt3mi4p
@user-dw7lt3mi4p 11 ай бұрын
Waverly yard was an important interchange point for DT&I to receive coal and coke trains and to a lesser extent automobile parts from C&O and N&W to forward to the Detroit area. With the CSX and NS mergers the traffic could be shipped all the way on their lines cutting DT&I out of picture.

@@user-dw7lt3mi4p thank you. Greatly appreciate the info. We have a few places in northern Wisconsin and Michigan where the rail.stayed intact in areas where ore mining and sometimes logging we're busy into the 1970s but then retrenched. Saw an excellent slide presentation 2 years ago on the interchange mixture between. MILW. CBQ. NYC. IC. And a short line all in a small radius at LaSalle Illinois. Today almost nothing is left

Well, sir. That was quite a packed video today, for sure. No 911 today but some fast and a couple of Heritage Livery trains and some funky places. The old 4-track crossing area and track would be snapped up if it was over here, to run and show and store Heritage Diesels and Steam Locomotives and stock on. Maybe Amtrak will have a look at it. If I had the money and permits, I'd do it too, but I can't so thank you, sir. Y'never know, maybe Amtrak will have a look at it...well you'll know better than me! Still close to 10k tons on the coal train. I didn't count them but it can't be far off! I was watching one of those #Shorts yesterday and it was a Semi Driver, with a load of cars on board and he needed 13 foot 9 inches to get under a low over-pass. He got a measuring stick out and measured all the lowest points under the Bridge and with his suspension dropped and in his crawler gear, he made it without a scratch. That truck you got had about a foot, I reckoned but it's the little high spot that can't be seen from the cab and the angle of approach that'll catch the driver out! You're still getting that much sunshine? If it's stock footage you have, it's fine by me. Keep safe and all the best to family and the dawgies and Norfie too. Cheers!

I used to see those old telephone and telegraph lines and isolators on many rail lines in southern Ohio, most notably on the NS Dayton District in Miamisburg and West Carrollton. Shame they're slowly being removed.

Not many are left anymore. On Friday I was following a CSX line through southern Indiana that still has them with tons of insulators. I think only two of the wires are used on that line and only in a few areas.

Great video, trucks over 13' 5" cannot go under a lot of bridges, since this one was 13' 10" truck have no problem. Whereas in New York bridges are poorly marked so you gotta guess most of the time

A lot of NY bridges are taller than posted I go under 2 that are marked as 12’10” but there’s a notice at the bridge saying actual height is 13’10”

Jawtooth i know of a place in WV near where the NW bypassed it's old line to run along the Tug Fork and Big Sandy where a number of poles have not been removed with the glass insulators I never had the chance to get me a few
