French depth is crazy ! 4 players under 20 were whith adult France in Argentina: S. Daunivucu, L. Daricarerre, T. Atissogbe (2 tries vs Argentina), P. Tuilagi (2 tries vs Urugay). An another one: A. Timo is prepararing the Olympics with France 7. 3 others are wounded: Z. Affane (already the French number 3 of the last U20WC, a monster), M. Gazzotti (the MVP of the last U20WC), Patrick Tuifua (playing for HAwke's Bay Magpies). I mean, normaly Castro Ferrera and Quere Karaba are substitutes.

Our #8 Castro-Ferreira is an absolute beast. He worked very hard with Jerome Kaino during the past 3 years, our youth coach at Stade Toulousain. The scary thing with him is actually his mindset, he got everything (rugby, mindset, work ethic, and already very mature in terms of athleticism and physicality). He scored 9 tries in Top 14 with Stade Toulousain this season. He also played big games like Champions Cup semifinal against Harlequins and was very close to play the final against Leinster Rugby (he didn’t play only because the coach chose a 5-3 split). At this point I’ll not be surprised if he play the next November test-match with the adults…Winning U20 is cute but I hope we’ll win the real World Cup someday…Sorry for my English and see you in November 😉

Not enough franchises in Super Rugby to cater for the young lads and their more experienced and established senior players. But if they got rid of Super Rugby and went full NPC (Super NPC) then the spread would allow for more youth exposure to high level competition.

The Big difference between these young teams IS not especially talent but the experience. Guys like Carbonneau, Ferté, Lino, Castro- Ferreira and Reus are often used in their Top 14 clubs. GG france, played super well and just looked so controlled through it all. I think this shows while NZ are much improved this u20s year there is still a big gap in the development of the players missing, while this is a weaker french side most of their players have some top14 experience or are at least training with the senior sides. No one from the NZ team besides Rico Simpson has been in a super rugby environment proper yet, and most haven't even put on a jersey for NPC either. if we want the U20s to compete we need players like lakai and sititi hitting their breakout season while still being in the u20 frame, currently they all bloom outside the age gap window by a year often in their first season or two in super rugby. I think its mainly in our forwards that we lack the development, we have enough talent in the backs to tear teams apart at this grade but our missed tackles and lack of dominance in the collision cost us big time. 23 turnovers lost for nz vs 9 for france is insane. still NZ have some promising players coming through though, pledger, simpson, taele, Solomon, hutchinson, Tito-Harris etc all should be looking to break out into the super sides in the next couple of years. Rico especially needs to be in a team to learn but also play more at 10, he seems like a big prospect for us. would love to see Simpson and Pledger on the same side and build their combo to be honest. good luck in the final France, smash the English!

8:11 why is the French yellow card not rescinded given that it was a technical foul, while the NZ yellow (then upgraded to red) is a dangerous foul play that happened beforehand? The technical yellow could not have happened if the TMO or the referee had done their job in time.

many players from the France group present for this World Cup have already played with their professional teams. Some (Reus, Carbonneau, Castro Ferreira, Ferté and some were not even there when they could have played with this team (injured people like Gazzoti or Tuifua and others present with the A team in Argentina like Tuilagi or Attisogbe) This certainly comes from the policy implemented by the FFR for several years, the JIFF (Young people from French training). Each Pro team from the 2 pro divisions in France (top14 and prod2) must (under penalty of a fine or withdrawal of points) have an average over the entire season of 16 JIFF out of 23 players on the match sheet (for the 2023-2024 season . The next years it'll be the same numbers) so a very good young player will play early with the pro team

It was a good match despite some defensive lapses on both sides. As usual New Zealand have produced some great players, can't wait to see what they'll be like in 5 years' time :) I'm pleased for my Bleuets, good offloads, a well-oiled attack but our touch throws were horrendous. Guess they will have to work on that

The French have a lot of depth in their under 20s. Winning the competition doesn't result in winning World Cups etc. I don't think South Africa won too many under 20s Championships but they've won more World Cups. I remember NZ winning a lot of 20s tournaments a few years ago but it didn't transfer into the All Blacks success in world Cups.

Further signs of the decline in New Zealand rugby at age group levels. Absolutely terrible display against a committed French outfit. And the Kiwi RU continues to move the deck chairs as grass roots rugby implodes. On the bright side, Aussie rugby not looking so abysmal in comparison, not through improvement unfortunately.

Imagine that 5 under 20 from France were picked by the A team in Argentina … on this under 20 team there is +230 professional match (in Top 14 and second division) so yes, because of the professional environment this team is certainly ahead. Castro Ferrera as played 15 games with Toulouse, that just won Top14 and Champions cup …
