When Allied forces in the Pacific took the fight to the Empire of Japan, the United States Marine Corps would be the tip of the spear in battle after battle. Tough, well-trained and dependable, Marines fought both a determined enemy and unimaginable conditions to seize victory on island after island on their way to victory. READ MORE:
Start your own US Marine force for Bolt Action, Chain of Command or any other WW2-era game you can name with the Warlord Games plastic Marine infantry box: store.warlordgames.com/produc...
If you're looking for another USMC painting guide which uses purely Citadel colours, there's a classic here from the late Andy Zeck: www.warlordgames.com/usmc-spe... Even after years of painting, Andy's style influenced how I get my models on the table as quickly as possible, so it's well worth checking out how others might approach the same subject! Andy's are a lot more green than mine turn out, but you might like how that looks.
A few odd technical glitches featured in the audio of today's recording, so there are some odd cuts and jumps in this one. My apologies for some of the stilted nature of the outcome here, but I think it still works pretty well!

Pretty good overall Mate! However, I would note that the chinstraps on his helmet are webbing, similar to the other web items, rather than leather. The only leather on the M1 helmet was the **Helmet LINER** chinstrap going over the brim, although these degraded fast in the South Pacific and weren't bothered about replacing. The Thompson, and really all US long guns, featured a blackened metal buttplate on the rear of the stock to keep it from being damaged. And I'll throw this last one in as a related tidbit and not critic: the Marine's Dog Tags were suspended from a white or light olive cotton cord, rather than a metal chain we see often depicted with US Army troops.

Great vid, except they must have changed the tone of GreenGrey 886 to amuch lighter shade. I thought the use of Green Grey was a great idea, except after applying it and watching this vid again your shade is straight up Oliive Drab .887. Green Grey .971 is now called Light Green Grey and is a perfect match up, though. Just a polite observation for everyone's benefit. :)

Thx for a great video. Most likely a noob question but using the Shade (Citadel Agrax Earthshade) makes my marines look like they've done mud wrestling. And I can clearly see yours aren't, any advice for what I'm doing wrong and tips going forward (think I emulate the amount of shade from the video) thx in advance!
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio Жыл бұрын
Short answer is they changed the formula since this was recorded, and now it's much gloopier and heavier than I was using. Easiest fix is to mix up another pot which is half Agrax, half Lahmian Medium. It'll give you way more control over how the shade settles and won't dry as dark, but keeps the shading effect.

I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong, but after I put the agrax earth shade on the mini looks like hot garbage. Think I’m going too heavy maybe. Tips?
@SonicSledgehammerStudio
@SonicSledgehammerStudio Жыл бұрын
Without seeing it, 'hot garbage' doesn't tell me much about the problem you're having. 😅 One likely culprit is that since this video was made, GW changed the formula on all their Shade line. Yaaay... Best thing you can do is mix the new Agrax 1:1 with Lahmian Medium. It'll flow and behave much more like the old stuff, and give you a slightly more subtle shading effect; it's harder to overdo it.
