As someone who has battled major depression, anxiety, and PTSD for more than thirty years I'm so happy that he's doing better, even though it's not like it was in the past when it was something to be hidden, there are still people who because they don't/can't understand what your going through or why you can't just snap out of it, want to make it out like you're just being lazy or some other BS. Even though I'm sure he wishes that he never went through this I hope he knows how much it means to people like me who have and continue to battle this terrible illness in silence for so long.

I'm thrilled to see he's feeling better. I've suffered from bipolar disorder for more than forty years, and it's hard, really hard to function on a day-to-day basis. Depression isn't so much sadness, although it's surely that, but a loss of vitality and interest in life. It can utterly be incapacitating. It's a horribly isolating illness and I hope his story will help others realize they aren't alone and convince them to seek the treatment they need.

Depression is nasty. It's a spiral down that becomes addictive and becomes a mud pit. Finding the way back is challenging, especially if you blame yourself. It helps to remember it's a chemical imbalance, not a weakness. Considering all the hormones, proteins, etc. that keep our bodies working, it's pretty amazing things work at all. Bravo for not hiding this. I guarantee you aren't the only one on the Hill with this challenge, you were just the only one to admit it. (Complex PTSD & Major Depressive Disorder, here.)

I have bipolar disorder and I found this to be very moving and it made me cry. I’m inspired by John Fetterman’s decision to seek support. I think it’s a sign of great courage for someone to let go of a sense of control. It breaks my heart for him to feel bad about going into the hospital on his son’s birthday. I hope he knows that it’s ok and good that he got the support he needed. And that that will make him a better father and a good model for his own sons. That your own well-being is paramount. And this video is helping remind me to do what will make me happiest and to ditch all sorts of pressure I feel to do all sorts of things.
