While tensions in Australia over what is happening in Gaza and Israel have grown these past nine months, the Albanese government has been at pains to say it wanted to protect social cohesion.
But on this last day of parliamentary sittings before the long winter break, it was a day of angst outside and inside the building. Gaza wasn't the only point of protest but it has gradually come to dominate everything in Parliament House.
