This song is about Japan's cultural Revolution starting in the late 1800's. It was marked by a severe adaptation of Western Cultural as was common in the age of Imperialism, but was different from the rest of Asia in that Western culture was embraced and fused with what was considered to be "Japanese". The songs also brings up points about Industry and the nearly impossible rate of Militarization that also marked these years. This song appears sad because of how slow it is, but the original song taps into Patriotism and Nostalgia of a time when Japan went from 3rd world to world power

. The original version is fast and the song is more jumpy, so we didn't have much time to think what she sang but this slow version...the music is already sad and the lyrics are slowed, giving us time to process what she sang. I like both versions to be honest.

It really is a beautiful line. It's used for contrast as well. The one that catches mine, as I've heard stories from my Filipino side of the family is "This bouquet that surrounds is iron, poison, see? Looking down at us from that big guillotine." I didn't know the true meaning of this song till I studied history. Kurousa-p is acknowledging the past. His way of thinking is what we should strive for as people.

I know it’s a soldiers’ song, but for me it’s also always represented this transition Japan went through of embracing modernization while also holding tight to dear traditions. It’s something I think many other parts of the world are missing now, that bit of tradition, and the fact Japan still openly keeps many of theirs has always made the country special to me.

It's still hopeful, though, urging the people to fight and to jump down from the guillotine to break free again. Since on one else has posted it, I will/ Lyrics: [Verse 1] With a bold and sudden calling Western Revolution's starting Let our hearts be open to it, pacifist nation Riding on a penny-farthing, it's the flag of our sun rising Warding evil spirits like an ICBM [Pre-Chorus] On the train tracks, running along the line Let us move forward, don't look behind Boys and girls becoming like samurai Just like those from our previous life [Chorus] Thousands of cherry blossoms dwindling in the light Though I can't hear your voice, keep what I say in mind This bouquet that surrounds is iron poison, see? Looking down at us from that big guillotine Darkness has just engulfed the universe we know The lament that you sing can't reach ears anymore We are still far away from reaching clear blue skies Go ahead, keep shooting, with that ray gun, fight! [Verse 2] Veterans who've trained through struggles are now officers in battle Here and there, we see the harlots in procession This one, that one, doesn't matter, every single person gathers March on to our saintly deaths now! 1, 2, 3, 4 [Pre-Chorus 2] Passing through the gates on the mountain peaks Escaping this world, kill all the evil fiends Surely this will end in a denouement Among the crowds giving their applause [Chorus] Thousands of cherry blossoms dwindling in the light Though I can't hear your voice, keep what I say in mind This bouquet that surrounds is iron poison, see? Looking down at us from that big guillotine Darkness has just engulfed the universe we know The lament that you sing can't reach ears anymore We are still far away from reaching peaks of hope Go ahead, keep shooting, use the flashing bolt! [Pre-Chorus] On the train tracks, running along the line Let us move forward, don't look behind Boys and girls becoming like samurai Just like those from our previous life [Outro] Thousands of cherry blossoms dwindling in the light Though I can't hear your voice, keep what I say in mind That bouquet that surrounds is iron poison, see? Leaping down to us from that big guillotine Thousands of cherry blossoms dwindling in the light Once your song can be heard, we'll dance with all our might This bouquet that surrounds is iron poison, see? Why do you believe it to be a sad song? Sure the song is about casting away past traditions and culture and embrace a new set of ideals brought fourth by westernization, and the costs associated with this transition. But still there is a profound message of hope in there, about how certain things are timeless and will remain forever, and how the japanese cultural identety will remain despite embracing western ideals.

I wouldn't say this is a sad song, but neither a so hopeful one. I could be wrong, but instead of westernization(that is of course also one of the main topics), isn't the song more focused on the japanese citizen reaction? I mean, the fact that there is the mention of ICBM, guillotines and well, I could be misreading the lyrics, but weren't cherry blossom often associated with fallen kamikazes? That being said, it's not either a "hate" song, but more like the sadness that was around the citizens. Like I said, I could be totally misreading here, but "'This one, that one, doesn't matter'/'Every single person gathers'/'March on to our saintly deaths, now'/.../'Escaping this world, kill all the evil fiends'/.../Thousands of cherry blossom/Dwindling in the light/.../This bouquet that surrounds/ is iron poison, see" and pretty much of the lyrics, of course, it's not really nice if you think that the Persona of the song is kinda of putting "western" as an enemy. But well, citizens, even if japanese did what they did, usually they would treat someone who are attacking them as an enemy, so... If I were to describe this song, it would be the same as reading some book or watching a movie that is from the overpowered point of view, you know? I'm sorry, I really didn't intent to write this much, but this song has such a deep feeling of the Persona that well...

The Meiji Restoration and the following cultural revolution, mainly Western Technology; Japanese Ideals, has always been one of the most fascinating events in human history. How an island nation went from total isolationism to being the leading Asian power within a generation. This song does a great job of emulating the optimism of the young and old who embraced the changing world around them. While the older generations are sad to see their time old traditions be pushed aside, they encourage the younger Japanese people to move forward. Meanwhile, the younger generations do not simply forget the traditions of old, but evolve them to fit the modern world. Overall, a great song on its own, made better by the way it handles the time period it portrays.

@@azariajones5850 one of the reason japan was aggressive in ww2 was that in 1870s 80s U.S wrecked their economy with unfair trades. Japan had only choice recovering their economy from war and 1910s china was a good choice. And that time russia got wrecked by inside and lost to japan which made japan militarist think that they are superior now and can recover the shame they lost to u.s 30 years ago. So japan militarising u.s has part to blame

If you start it a x2 speed, and decrease it at certain times, it can actually tell a story. Try it: Start: x2 speed (just the intro) _Propaganda for the war begins, people stir and are excited to join the fight!_ First verse and chorus: x1.5 speed _They start on their way to march in battle, with high hopes that they will soon taste justice_ Second verse and chorus: x1.25 speed _The war is beginning to get harder for the troops, and lives have been taken. However, regardless, the troops keep their hopes and heads high. They continue to march forward, and press on, knowing that, soon, the war will end_ Ending bridge and chorus: x1.0 speed _The enemy begins to flood them. The lose rations, supplies, and many men. Families lose their loved ones, and many casualties have been left in the wake of this war. The soldiers remember how they truly believed they would win this war, and the families they left behind. They even caught faint glimpses of happiness and hope in their reflections back then. They now see that, regardless of what they've done, what they could have done, it doesn't matter now. The war has ended, and they have lost_

An everlasting... Smile. Hopeless feelings drawn from our hearts, a little and sweet laugh breaks the mold of silence. In truth lies a joy and bitter honey made with our bindings that keep us grounded. That which shackled people through a pride of emotion forgets the window on the other side of the hourglass. A single moment of life, lost in the lust of the hearts love for all to see when... She smiles for herself.

As a writer, when I hear a song I get so many ideas. this is one of the short story ideas I had whilst listening to this English cover. slight tw~ a grandmother, watching over her children from the heavens with cherry blossoms in her hair. one of her granddaughters, sakura, is struggling. she starts having..dark..thoughts, her mind turns to..that. the grandmother screams from the heavens. she runs to the gods and begs them to give her a blessing, they don't listen. she begs and begs and finally, a darkness god makes a deal with her. "I shall save your granddaughter, but to a cost. your soul, I'd like it" he smirked evilly at the grand woman's face. she eagerly nodded. she had one request, 'of course' the darkness god said with sarcastic empathy. "grant me one more wish, and my soul is yours. let me go down to earth one more time, just as a voice." he nodded. the granddaughter, standing on the train tracks, a train speeding down toward her. she heard her grandmother's words and jumped out of the way of the train. she lived on a euphoric life, she found a great, loving husband and had 3 great kids who were successful all throughout their life. her eldest son became a famous Japanese singer. her eldest daughter became a famous writer and her youngest daughter became a scholar computer scientist. but at what cost? the grandmother smiled as the god of darkness ripped her soul from her chest. you may be wondering, what were those words the grandmother said to sakura? **"I love you, Sakura."** haha, not one of my best but I tried heh

Ya know...This feel more like a scathing remark on how too quick and too hurry westernization and militarism lead it all to the gutter and how they are trying to aim for a future, but ICBM is very much not peaceful and that blue sky they keep seeking is no where to be seen.

Oddly enough, the saddest line in this song to me is "western revolution's starting." I feel this way because it reminds me that many places are starting to lose their own culture and starting to follow western culture. I fear that in a few hundred years all individual culture may be gone

I dont belive culture is going away, Infact i belive most cultures are going with the west really well. Japan, Business, technology, their way of stature. IS still heavily present. Just in a diffrent form. It may not happen on a global scale, But communities will still hold their traditions high.

Yes, because arabic, yemenese, and oman culture is in no need to westernize to remove their slavery problem. "western" culture just means adopting a value system similar, but like Japan, they will keep their own culture... just as Poland and France are completely different culturally yet fall under "western" culture. The Western Revolution was what turned japan from an imperialistic empire into a strong humane industrial power.
@HigureHokousha
@HigureHokousha 7 жыл бұрын
Saddest part of that is that "western culture" is a thing. There were once many different cultures over here...but those are being pushed away by the current popular culture.
@relmcheatham
@relmcheatham 7 жыл бұрын
Higure Hokousha 'Western Culture' just refers to anything that falls under the umbrella of cultures that came out of the western traditions set through judeo Christian writings (French, German, Danish, Bulgarian, etc) in the same way 'eastern culture' is any culture that comes from the Eastern schools of traditional thought (Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Etc) 'Western Culture' is not it's own thing, don't conflate an individual countries culture to that of an entire group of cultures... as every part of that group is vastly different (just ask any two people from the Balkans from different countries).
