My all time favorite headphones. Period. And I have many... Tried the Sundaras that everyone seem to prefer, but I wasn’t convinced. Not comfy, poor qc, etc. I tried the dt1990, liked, but killing highs, murdering clamp force. The Ananda is awesome, but for double the price and yet missing that natural timbre these have. Thanks for confirming my choice. Your channel is underrated. You’re doing a great job. Thanks.

I love my Fostex. There are so many damn good headphone manufacturs in the world. We can‘t know them all. 98% oh the youtuber present the same (mainstream) headphones They are not bad headphones but you have to try them with your own music and DAC. And 99.9% of the viewers follow the youtubers opinion. Real good hifi studios are rare. Anyway good review

@@robertlucskai Yeah thats why I like Daves Channel. If I could I would try all of them to find best for every music like a passion pipe smoker lol but most of us have more then one and some headphones need hundreds of hour playtime to show full potential. And I really would try the Sennheiser HE 1 or T+A P-SE and „see“ if The difference is really 50.000€ .

They are much better then most people tell you they are. And if someone tells you the Hd660S don't scale you can be sure that person never listened to them themselfs. I am using iFi Zen DAC v1. balanced connection with HD660s. Very happy with the results. Dave’s review is bang on. They are very smooth, natural and realistic sound with a touch of warmth. With 150 ohm impedance I never need to turn the volume above 11 o’clock. As it is not heavy, I can listen for a few hours without feeling fatigue. I mainly listen to classical music which I think HD660s is ideal for this genre. No matter it’s Chopin’s nocturne (solo piano) or Schubert’s string quartets or symphonies by Beethoven and Mahler involving 100 + pieces of instruments of varied tones and textures, the HD660s reproduces them with ease and accuracy. The HD660S makes me feel I am sitting right in the best seat of the concert hall.

For me.. Hd600! A headphone which I have owned for close to 20 years now well before I knew their worth or had a reckoning that they would reach a legendary status someday. Mids, mids, mids ah those beautiful mids...the same reason I love my proac signature tablette 10 for near field listening. For everything else, its Arya! and my tannoys. That's it. Two headphones and two sets speakers. I'm set for life. My love for hd600 does not account for is technical prowess, but for the journey through life i have taken with these and how they have served me. I can never give up on these as these have accompanied me through thick and thin. It's a bond that I share only with family, few close friends, my bike and hd600. Don't care of what else better comes in the market. I baby these to pass them on to my kid someday.

Your review of this headphone is by far the best I've come across on KZfaq. Thank you for that! I'm a dj who just started producing and I LOVE my Sennheiser HD25s. Been using them for 12+ years. They sound way more crisp, way more clear than most dj headphones I've tried. I'm new to music production and the audiophile world in general so I picked up a pair of Beyerdynamic DT 900 Pro X since everyone seems to be raving about Beyers so I decided to give them a try. Unfortunately, I found them to be lacking in the mids and in overall sound quality- I found myself wanting to go back to my HD25s. I don't know what it is about Sennheisers, but the sound quality is just incredible. So crisp. Vocals and various instruments just sound so great through them. I'm going to give the 660s a try... hopefully they're the pair for me! Thanks again for such a great review!

You are welcome for the review. Thank you for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed the video. Yeah Sennheiser for sure knows how to do mids and vocals. I look forward to hearing your impressions of the HD660s. Interesting about the 900 Pro X. I haven't heard it yet but hope to get an opportunity at some point. Another headphone to consider is the Rode NTH-100. Doesn't have the treble elevation of the HD25 but it has quality tone, timbre, details and resolution along with mids :)

On point review. I love the hd 660s more than the other Sennheisers. Its natural it's detailed it's pleasing and accurate. I'm quite surprised that it uses the same driver as the hd700 which I didn't like one bit, But still it had great technicalities, the hd660s has the technicalities and the timber.

I just ordered my 660s and you are confirming my choice also 👍. (the 660s seem to be the best for flat response while NOT ACCENTUATING THE TREBBLE with harsh resonance which many others do, like the beyerdynamic which was the closer contender... and yet, the 660s separate the instruments and frecquencies better.... well, that's what I've been researching... lets see how that is true in two more days! )

@@TheHonestAudiophile Hey mate! Received them about 2 hours ago and I made the time to check my preferred refference mixes.... I freaking love them 660s already! I do feel the small gap in mid hights they all talk about and are evident in the graphics but, I was expecting to still be able to hear everything clear without harsh sibilances or distorted harmonics and resonances... well, it does the job beautifully; very critically listening to some of my refference tracks, I can hear everything separated and not annoying to my hearing. Still more to critisize about this 660s for me, because they have to be tamed first for some hours and I have to be in the post-acquisition phase.... so I can be even more critical. I think I had a pretty darn good start with the 660s.

None of HD6 series have artificiall or metalic sound on them ( 600 sound a little shouty) ... Far from it i would say that HD660s are smoother than most of headphones even at prices over 1.000 euros . Planars have that Metallic artificial sound for example if u listen Sundara and HD660s side by side u gone notice that Sundara sound so clean like someone has taken the track polish it and give it to u ,HD660s on the other hand sound like the band is with u inside a room without pushing detail to u with force its there if u really listen but not in front of u like Sundara and most planars do. Thats why most people love Planar detail but in real life when someone is singing and instruments are playing the resolution and clarity is smoothed out , thats why HD6 series sound so natural. And honestly the signature without Low end is on purpose by Sennheiser because if u eq them they can produce these notes without clipping at normal dbs. Focals for example do that and that high on high volumes they clipping.

They have the clarity pf hd600 without beeing shouty like 600 they have the smoothness of hd 650 without the veil ... And on top of that they aee faaaast very fast close to Sundara fast , and best of all The imaging OMG the stereo sepperattion is a class over 1.000 euros headphones for sure. @@jamesbittle469 Honestly all that Rolled off in the bass , all these years with HD 6 line i am positive now that is there for a reason ... Why ? Because HD6 driver is more capable than my HD 5 drivers on EQ when they pushed, And i have tried Hardware and Software EQ upping that Bass , And honestly ? At first i was amazed about that bass notes hitting me in every song , But after a month of use something doesnt feel right , It didnt sound smooth , soft , and the vocals was kept back , So i am back to Stock Sound . I think that all HD 6 line is all about that smooth , warm vocal sound and changing that ruins everything. Lets just see that Realistically , these drivers can easy play that bass notes without distortion on normal volumes ( not like Focals that distord) And all these years Sennheiser could easy make that Signature but they Did not . Now after all these years i can understand why . They want that specific signature... And they use other Headphones on their line up for more bass ( for example 560s or heavy bass momentums ) Even the HD800 line that most people dont like because they have that sparkle airy sound its their for a purpose i can see that.

Thank you! I really enjoyed this review. I love my Ananda and my 600. The 660 S is a very good headphone, But I do like the 600 more,It scales up higher on high-end equipment, and there is a smoothness to the sound that I find so seductive and it sounds clearer with the right equipment. Not quite as clear as the 660 S, but more satisfyingly clear that out of a less capable stereo But this definitely Makes me wanna pull out the 660 S again and make sure my ears are hearing things right I agree about the soundstage, the narrowness of the stage on the 600 leads something to be desired

But exactly as you said the mids can be a bit too much and its fatiguing for longer durations. It just doesn't sound natural with modern recordings. I have the truthear hexa and like its sound signature. But prefer the ie200 ever so slightly to it. I almost bought the 660S but switched in the last moment, thinking that was the more popular one so it should be better. I should have seen your video one more time to convince me lol. Also I have the ie600, which I have deemed my endgame iems, with a tip swap (Spinfit CP145) otherwise I find it a bit sharp. I like a mild v-shape sound signature. The ie600's best quality is to me, being able to tell the size of the room where the recording happened, it's something else. The imaging is amazing. I was thinking about getting the Hifiman Edition XS or even the 660S or 660S2. Will it be a good upgrade? what do you think? I listen to a lot of Electronic and Jazz for the most part.

With the Ananda, I totally agree. I have both headphones, I love both headphones, but I don't agree when I hear some claim the Ananda is hands down the better can. For vocals, the 660 just has more texture and weight. I find vocals on the Ananda sometimes have this shimmer and gloss, as if it's being slightly stretched apart because of the headphone's bigger soundstage. Both are great headphones, and a reason to own both, really. Great video! :)

I have both Sundara and HD660s and i like both of them ...But HD660s are better for me for those reassons. They are lighter , they have better quality control ( my Sundara had problems but they change it under warranty) , HD660s have a little better imaging and in your head soundstage that feels great on vocals , also 660s sound more natural better timbre, sundara pads are cycle and the down of the ears touch the pads ( ananda pads are better). Sundara are faster and more clinical that i love but lose the smoothness of HD660s. Sundara mebranes are so sensitive that the air pressure around effects the sound ( u can test that by slowly move your hands close to the metal grills u gone notice change in sound) Also like most Planars that i have u must be very careful with dac amp combo. For example Sundara need way more power than my Hd600 650 and 660.

A small 650 comparison is mentioned in the review. 650 has more mid bass slam, less bass extension, fuller mids, less treble extension, darker treble, warmer presentation throughout, smaller stage and less detail retrieval and resolution.

Actually for me they do muddy up if i equalize them to have more bass, i would have liked more treble response - the details are there but they sound better if you give them some treble boost. Hi Dave! I recently purchased the HD660S to go join my family of HD600 & HD650 headphones. I wanted to ask; can i use the pentaconn cable that came with it with the HD600 & HD650? I know the HD660S is 150ohm & the other aforementioned two are 300ohm so not sure if the pentaconn cable will work correctly if i plugged it into my HD600/650. It also says on the Sennheiser website for the HD660S: "We packed your HD 660S with a versatile set of essential cables, each one impedance-matched with ultra-low capacitance." This is where i get confused... Is the pentaconn cable impedance-matched to the 150ohm thereby making it a bad match for the 300ohm HD600/650? Thank You in advance for the advice & clarification!

Dave I am really surprised, every other reviewer except yourself and Z tried everything to dinamite this can in order to save sacred cow hd600. None of Spanish speaking reviewers saved this one. As I said I was disappointed at first coming from akg k702. I was expecting Cristal clear sound and found something with a kind of veil in all frequencies that prevented me of finding something realistic in detail retrieval. Nothing sounds emphasised everything sounds balanced and preaty but for me does not impress me because everything sounds so pleasing that in the end there is no punch whatsoever. Now, things become better with hybrid amps such as mt602

I have the HD560s. I'm wondering whether the 660s would be a good enough upgrade over it? I'm satisfied with the 560s' technical performance, but sometimes I just want something that's not so analytical and has a more enjoyable and relaxed sound signature.
@TheHonestAudiophile

660s is a more natural, accurate reproduction that isn't as intense as 560s. They have a warmer approach for sure. I love the 660s and sold the 560s immediately after reviewing them.

@@TheHonestAudiophile Ok, sounds like it will be a significant upgrade. Will it sound different enough for it to sit alongside the 560s? Also, since I'll be driving those off my LG V30, is it going to sound its best in terms of quality or scaling?

@@TheHonestAudiophile Well, given that the phone delivers 2Vrms and performs equivalent to a decent portable DAP and also since the 660s is easy to drive and doesn't scale as much, I thought they'd be a good match together.

Agreed on everything i have almost 200 hours on 560s, Hd660s are better overall mostly on imaging smoothness clarity and natural sound. 560s on the other hand sound more harsh bright that some people love , also 560s have the same angled driver that all my HD 59X series have so i get bigger soundstage. But with HD6 series u can buy Angled pads from Brainwavz for example and get that bigger soundstage ( personaly i have them and i hate the big soundstage on HD 6 series, i love the in your head presentation that 6 series have)

I never had Ananda but 400i and Sundara had problems thankfully under warranty. If u need longevity u dont go planars . unless u are a reviewer that use them for 300 hours and thats it. Personally i love planars but i am careful with them . Driver miss matched and failures are common but honestly something that most people with planars dont say is that they drop em down and have failure or they leave them on the sun or high humidity places and they broke. Its not Sennheiser HD6 series or Denon d series that last forever.
