From a german point of view all the safety features are not additional features. They are a natural part of everything designed in Germany. So when you are asking yourself: Why does it have so many of those, but not any convinience feature: They were really going for a product with only one feature: Powering headphones.

@@basshead. Not really. Hd600 650 are reasonably priced. Even though they have been selling these for ages and they probably don't cost a whole lot to manufacturer. But it's still competitive. Hd800s, apart from high price, it's very good performer being one of the best headphones out there. However, hd820 hd800 ie800 etc have never been comparable to competitors. Good performing mid tier products will be much much better.

Haha, Listening to you on the hdvd820 and hd800s It’s, fucking, end game.... Of all of the amps I’ve tried with the hd800s, its this amp that truly brings it to life. Though I use the Chord Qutist DAC. There is no amp when u listen to music it fades away and all u get is the track, endless power and simple to boot, works for me. No regrets

Fuck You And Your Ideology yes, I was, I’m afraid this information is a little antiquated, I sold my entire desktop set up because I thought going insane was the new trend LOL. My new desktop set up will be benchmark AH2, amplifier, Holo May and one of the knob sounds top end volume control attenuators. But my verdict still stands and if you’re not constantly hunting for that higher goal and willing to put serious money down this set up is still in the game and sublime and 99.8% people will still be happy with it for the next decade

I think the optical port plug is so large because they made the hole for the jack rectangular instead of square, and if it wasn't large enough to contact the metal on the edge then it would transfer all of the pressure exerted on it directly to the jack and would be much more likely to be damaged during shipping.

I'm pretty sure that the reason why a large portion of amps doesn't have a switch to disable the line out/pre-amp output is simply that most people only ever connect one output device at a time. If you have powered speakers, then it doesn't matter at all because you wouldn't have them turned on when you're not using them. So all you'd really do is disconnect the headphones and turn on the speakers and that seems perfectly reasonable. Outside the kind of crazy testing you perform, people don't generally switch between different devices all the time, so there's no reason for a switch like that. Then again, adding it shouldn't be an awful lot of additional effort, but it hurts the clean design a bit.

Hey those are my photos! I posted those over at head-fi a while ago. Glad you found them and didn't have to take it apart. The power jack is mounted to the rear-plate so you can't use it when it's disassembled anyway

The HDV820 is a good match with the HD800 series headphones, i have HD800 early S/No, HD800S, HD820 (using Audiravana) I couldn't be happier with the sound quality and performance - it's an all in one unit that certainly does the business.

The other sennheiser Amps let you look inside them. You should try them with hd800 or hd820, I just heard that combo in sennheiser stores, but they sound awesome together

Well, actually no. Hd800s sounds good with everything. Hd820 is shit on everything. Hd800 needs to be fixed. hdvd800 and hdvd820 are both shit. You can get almost anything at that price range and they will be better than these (except hd800s).

@@johnyang799 Strong opinion, but I disagree. The HD 800 is great when you want a detailed analytical sound. Nothing comes close, specially for the price. But you have to like this sound signature. Same with the HDVD 800, top class built and great sounding amp, but in this case, expensive.

Even their Flagship Masterpiece; the HE1 Electrostatic Headphone system, has NO digital balanced inputs ie. I2S HDMI etc. Just COAXIAL, OPTICAL, & USB. Those three are all you need tbh! The DAC will create the balanced signal, but it's unnecessary to send a so-called 'balanced' signal.

Completely agree. I’ve tried a great deal of amps with my Sennheiser line up, nothing matches it, 800s or 700 or 650. You can see right in to the heart of the music.

Can power any headphone, nice. Most people would take an Emotiva Bas-X (A-100) for 1/10 the cost...if you can even find one.

Nick-s-f The noise floor on the BasX though... Can’t really use them with anything other than MKIII mods, HE-6 or other power hungry headphones... It’s nice to have, but I couldn’t keep it as a main amp when I had one. Unless you really don’t mind the noise floor.

I have one and haven't touched it since I got the THX789. The noise floor is just too high. I'd honestly even use an Atom over it at this point it's that frustrating. The power is insane though if that's what you're looking for.

This amp/dac can power 4 headphones simultaneously, I don't know any other headphone amp that can do that. Lehmann Audio is another german headphone amp maker that is interesting, this looks like a Lehmann Audio amp.

27:00 Reporting in! Hi! Explain what? Oh, the lack of a switch? Makes total sense. No wierdness, no button checking, no auto-sense-non-sense, it is a known konstant. A thing that does not need troubleshooting. Edit: RME - Someone is paid to know what all the buttons and features do, find out what is broken and fix it. Sennheiser - Someone who is paid to know something comes home, puts on music and enjoys their free time.

The Control Freak is a volume or attenuator with no gain, or coloration. The Sennheiser is a gain stage and attenuation so coloration is going to be present, and that is why you like it. Easy explanation really.

Speaking of weird German amps, you ever use Beyerdynamic A20? It's not an especially good sounding amp, but it's interesting to say the least. I think it's rated at just 150mw@30ohms, and 100mw@600ohms, with two headphone outs. It even volume matches the headphones you have plugged in. It's built really well, and looks very sharp, but Jesus, it's the noisiest amp I've ever heard. It's like a throw-back to integrated computer audio from the early 2000s. And for whatever reason, the designers opted to put a 100 ohm resister on the output stage.

I know the Sound Blaster X G5 works with consoles but I can't look at it objectively due to it sounding incredibly muddy to me these days since I'm so used to hi-fi. Unfortunately, there aren't very many options that will work on the console, which was one of the reasons why I moved over to PC gaming.

It's been almost 7 months now since I placed my order. He won't answer my emails and it's pretty irritating that any update or status has to come through you. I pretty much handed this guy over $100 for nothing.
