My head canon. After Ayano successfully eliminated all of her 10 rivals. She didn't felt like she was ready to tell how she felt to taro. So she decided to practice and learn from talking to other males that showed some kind of interest in her but she was never actually in love with them. Meanwhile Taro figured out the one who was putting notes and gifts on his desk was Ayano. When Taro found this out he immediately had feelings for her since those notes and gifts really helped him through the hard times he had. Just like Ayano, Taro was nervous to tell how he feels. Soon enough Taro saw Ayano getting close with other boys. Taro enraged assume that she might fall in love with one of them and they will take her away from him. So Taro killed them becoming a Yandere. Ayano was never actually in love with one of them and would never accept their feelings because she just wanted to practice before speaking to Taro. Taro kinda knew she never had feelings for them but he wasn't taking any chances. After Taro successfully eliminated his rivals. Ayano and Taro was finally ready to speak with each other and tell how they feel. Eventually they did and boom they are now a couple.
