Are Senreve bags all just social media hype? Today's story is how I was able to "salvage" my Senreve mini maestra bag by making it more functional with a little DIY and my honest thoughts on the bag after using it for several months.
As a disclaimer, yes this item was gifted to me by Senreve but all opinions and thoughts in this video are my own. (Obviously, i managed to destroy the bag in the name of research heehee...)

Game. Changer. I have three Senreve bags (2 mini and 1 midi) and while beautiful and incredibly well made, I don’t wear them much because I detest the straps. Girl!!!! I’m finding a cobbler tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this!!! ✨❤️✨

I hope you don’t mind me sending this review to Senreve as a suggestion to modify their Maestra design! I adore the functionality of the interior, as well as the leather being durable and waterproof. Comfort is something that they need to consider in their design if they are to advertise this as a working woman/practical woman’s handbag. Love how you modified yours and even considering to do it myself if Senreve doesn’t end up changing the design.

I've had the mini maestra for nearly 4 years now and it has been my go-to bag for when I travel internationally. I personally don't find the bag to be heavy or awkward to wear as a backpack, and I'm only 90 lbs barely lift weight lol...It's also a great bag because it's not thief-friendly, I've gone on tours and all the super crowded tourist spots with friends and have survived from pick pocketers whereas my friends weren't so lucky.

I love how you made this bag your own! Never be afraid to customize your bag, I poked holes on the tabs on the side of my mini maestra to add keychains. I'll definitely be adding additional rings to the sides too! However, this bag is definitely structured and for those who prefer a box-type bag. The whole selling point of the Maestra bags, is the fact that it converts from a shoulder/crossbody bag to a backpack, without unhooking anything. I love my bag and it's very much my style, not for everyone though.

I love the modification! This makes me think I’d buy a pre-loved mini. I will just buy additional D rings though, not actually remove and limit the carrying options. D rings are inexpensive. Shoe repair is called a Cobbler. :) Someone else has probably said that by now, 8 months later. I’m sure it came to you as soon as you stopped recording.

that shoe repair shop did an amazing job, it looks very professional. you did a great review. I have always hated the way the straps were done, it always looked awkward as a shoulder bag, it leaned too far out. Senreve should start making the bag this way

I love your modification of the bag. I would buy this bag if it looked liked yours. I saw the senreve bag at Nordstrom awhile back and didn’t like the way it tilted as a shoulder bag.

Oh my goshhh yes, I would have been a lot more interested in this bag if it didn't seem like every influencer had crawled out from under a rock and did a sponsored review on this haha 😂 Thank you for doing an honest review, and being so transparent, I really appreciate it. Such a good question to ask whether you would buy it for yourself. The color is really beautiful, but the weight would be a deal breaker for wanting to use it as a backpack. I just bought this in mimosa blanc. I think it really depends on what you want and what you can afford. Most people that buy luxury bags want a brand name and hopefully good quality. People who can afford lots of luxury handbags might just care about the style. If you want a recognizable luxury bag obv Senreve isnt for you bc it’s not established as a luxury brand. Personally I already buy a bunch of other bags so I just wanted a white bag that doesn’t get dirty easily and can still hold stuff. Thanks for sharing your changes to the bag!! Good to know if I ever wanted that

They’re just called shoe repair shops here in Oz. They also cut basic keys. I’m really glad I watched your video as I have watched others and they haven’t given me the same information as you have. I was really considering buying this bag but I’ve changed my mind. What you did to your bag is so much better!

Brilliant DIY. The only reason I didnt get this bag was because the way it tilts of ur body n it get heavy. They shd change their design.

all that you said about feeling the weight of the bag and how it tilts forward is friggin real! spoke my mind entirely! i have the mini and using it gives me a neck and shoulder aches from the sheer weight of it and i dont even stuff it to the brim! and carrying it as a backpack just puts further strain to my shoulder/neck as well.

I've really been debating buying this bag because i've been looking high and low for a stylish backpack and this seemed to be it. except apparently it's not. not a single other reviewer has mentioned that it is weighty and uncomfortable to wear as a backpack. for me, that defeats the whole purpose because that is what I am looking for. Would really appreciate any recommendations for a good work bag

Thank you! 😊 I’m currently loving the new Dauphine backpack from Louis Vuitton (in terms of style, I don’t own one). For cheaper options, I would consider Coach or Prada nylon, they seem to have a good selection of backpacks 😊. Hope that helps!

Senreve ought to hire you to be on their design team. Their bags, while made of good materials well put together, are notoriously hard to use. That comes from faulty design. You made a beautiful but very awkward a lot more functional. That you reach for it more often now is testament. I'd never buy the mini maestra, but if it was amended (under a different name) to function like yours, I'd consider it, because then it would be beautiful and useful. I actually have the full-sized maestra that I used for work. While it held everything beautifully, the fatal flaws of the bag are that the handle is on the flap cover; a small material holding up the giant weight of the bag and its contents. It is not a bag I could get into and out of easily, so it was the worst for travelling. As a backpack with awkward weight placement and skinny straps, it is very uncomfortable to use; I mostly used it as a crossbody or, most often, just carried by the handle like a briefcase. I would never get a smaller version of this bag for everyday use unless it was modified like yours. You did such a good job on it! The color is beautiful on you, too. I'd totally be tempted to buy this if it was modified like yours.

Wow! I just sold my midi and I’m still considering keeping the mini. It does have a weird placement when worn as a shoulder bag and the backpack feels really uncomfortable. The only reason why I’m keeping it is because it looks so nice and it’s really well-made. I hope they redesign it, because it does look really nice but it’s not as functional as they intended it to be.

Wow thanks for the honest review. I was wondering how heavy it is as I wanted to use it to carry baby essentials while out. Looks like I shouldn’t the as I wanted 1 size up and it might be even heavier :(

I bought this bag and returned it. I totally agree with the weight and how the bag lean forwards when you wear it. They didn’t do a great job with the functionality design of it. Your modified version makes so much more sense 😊

The aubergine colour looks amazing on you. I have the mini and do not find it heavy. But, I do find that straps a bit annoying and prefers wearing the bag on the shoulder or as a hand carry instead of as a backpack.

Peaceful Happiness thank you 😊 I find the “heaviness” comes from the fact that the straps are located at the back instead of to the side of the bag so it feels like the bag is pulling me down. 😌

i recently read a comment about the tilting issue. The comment mentioned putting the cross-body strap through the hand hold strap so that the bag doesn't tilt that much. Just passing this along, still love the diy.

Part of the reason I stopped wearing leather bags was the weight they added to the shoulders, neck and back. Later it was due to environmental reasons. 3 things: Thanks for an honest review, you should design handbags and sell it, and lastly you didn’t destroy Serenve bag you made it BETTER!

I will say that as someone who studied bio. No leather bags aren’t inherently better for the environment, especially if you already consume meat. Many “vegan leather” options are plastic which is has a lot of negative environmental impacts. But do what feels best and I can explain more if you’d like.

This is really helpful, I have not purchased a Senreve for the reasons you shared. I hope Senreve makes your clever modifications. Just looking a photographs I figured the weight distribution would be weird, and I don't carry backpacks.

I have midi in lavender. I honestly love it! Durable and carefree. Quality is superb! However the cons for me are it’s cumbersome to open and close, and it tilt forward when wearing as shoulder bag. Pros: it’s secure especially if you travel, lots of pockets, carefree bag, can wear as a backpack and fits a lot!

Very grateful for your video! That's exactly i think the downfall of Senreve is. I love colour of my bag, I love design of it, it's simple...but the tilt is becoming a much bother...its not easy to walk, if I walk long it gives me a backache as I constantly lean to keep it on shoulder. I'm doing to my bag what you did...so I can use my bag more often :)

I wondered if I readjusted the D rings to the outside edges on the back because I want a backpack… I so want to find a cobbler to be able to do these things.

This review is so helpful! I really wanted to buy this size but I was very hesitant about if I would feel comfortable wearing it around especially as a backpack. It was also weird to see it crossbody. Hopefully Senreve does add d rings to the side like you did!

I'm very impressed with this brave modification. I also find the off-centre weight a bit awkward when carrying it top handle and on the shoulder, this is a great solution. However I don't think I have a trusted cobbler near me to help make these changes :-( Thanks for sharing ~

I have watched many reviews. I also did not like how narrow the cross body option was and the weight distribution was when worn at the shoulder. I would definitely purchase Senreve mini maestro bag if it was modified like you did to your bag.

This review is really helpful. I was contemplating buying this bag but the cons outweigh the pros. I can’t compromise on the weight distribution and having a heavy bag because of that doesn’t make any sense. Thanks Erica for this honest to goodness review. No other YTuber has mentioned this handicap. I hope @senreve will fix this problem - will delay my purchase until then!

i agree with you on this, i like the bag quality but was reaching for it for the same reason. I removed the strap and put a different strap. I totally agree on the you solution. That is the reason i like the bag but did not get another one. If it is free i would take it and change it the way you did

I have this bag in medium and love it at 1st sight but after using it for a month the weights put me off.. i had to resell it (at a loss) as the weight distribution and the getting in and out of bag makes it very cumbersome while commuting or buying stuffs at shops, its so hard to get my stuffs in and out... and no i will not buy this bag again even though it is pretty to look at, if the owners of Senreve wants more buyers audience, they should modify their design to carry it by the side just like what you did above. Definitely more practical.

I honestly think it is just a hype. Objectively speaking, the Senreve bag looks like a teenager's school bag - design, shape, size, and structure. KZfaqrs/Influencers just say Senreve is nice coz they have to be nice to the giver of their bags.

A lot of people have modified the bag now because it's too painful and heavy to carry. Bad weighting issue with this bag as it is.

This actually made me not buying this bag. I think this review is honest and the criticism is comprehensible. The material does look pretty stiff and uncomfortable to wear. I wanted this bad solely because I could turn it into a backback Elegantly, but considering the straps not being a adjustable and the material sticking into my body makes me not wanting it anymore. Paying close to 1k, I don't want to adjust anything at a shoe shop either, so Thanks for the indept review.

I agree, the original position of straps on the Maestra bag is not that great. What about that Celine bag next to you, the straps are positioned very similarly, how does that bag work in terms of weight distribution? Why didn't you ask that cobbler/shoe repair shop to fix the stitching on the back of your Maestra bag (or fix it yourself), gaping holes don't look that great.

They didn’t offer stitching service.😊 I’m not quite sure how to fix it myself actually 😅 but I’ll try it next time. Regarding the Celine, I think I mentioned that in the video but anyways, the Celine is half the weight of the Senreve, so it’s ok for the straps to be a bit thinner and at the back of the bag. Plus the straps are on the outer part of the bag towards the edge portion while the maestra’s straps are nearer the center (to make it a more comfortable backpack I guess) which helps the weight distribution of the bag. Hope that helps clear things up 😊

In terms of size, it’s a bit small but a lot more lightweight then the Senreve. I personally like it but I like small bags in general. I think maybe though if I could choose again I would go for the Celine Nano Luggage instead of the nano belt bag 😊
