I finally made the inevitable cock up whilst trying to change lenses, in the cold with no surface to work on - and my finger slipped inside the lens mount and I got a nice grubby fingerprint on the sensor/filter of my GX-80! I was terrified for a while but this video sorted me right out and I now have a nice, immaculate image again. Thanks for your help.

thank you! Super simple guide! Did all the steps you showed. In A mode spotted the problem. Brush cleaning worked. Little dust particle on sensor looked like thumb sized oily smear on the video.

It would have been helpful to have a final photograph test of the sensor after completing your wet cleaning process to see for ourselves the before and after effect of the two cleaning processes (dry and wet).

I have a Panasonic Lumix G9M2 mirrorless camera. Quick question. Do I clean the sensor with the camera turned on or off? Some say on to lock the sensor others say off. Bit confused. Also do I turn the image stabilization on or off? In all the videos I have seen these questions are not addressed. Help/Advice please.

hi there Dust Patrol - I've just bought a secondhand Lumix tz18 on Ebay - its a point and shoot type camera - ie not interchangable lens. On screen and in my photos can be seen large specs, surely it can't be dust - maybe mold?

VERY HELPFUL VIDEO SIR ! btw, after taking a picture. Did you let your camera on ? and take off the lens? or did you switch it off first before removing the lens?? SORRY IF IM SO BASIC. I dont know what to do. plsss response THX ! ill subs!

Chan, to change lenses, switch off your camera. But to clean the sensor, switch it on. This will lock the sensor in position.

I have a Lumix Gx7, never cleaned the sensor but often used the blower as you did in your very informative video. My simple question is regarding the in-camera auto-clean function ; for this option should I take off the lens, and face the camera downwards as with the blower procedure? Thank you for the great video, cheers.
@thedustpatrol7515
@thedustpatrol7515 6 жыл бұрын
Hello Martin Finzel, the answer ist straight forward: Yes. The built in sensor-clean-function shakes the filter in front of the sensor at a very high frequency. This is to remove dust from this filter. Holding the camera with the lens mount facing down and no lens attached will make the dust fall down, following the gravity. So it will leave the camera rather than just being pushed aside.

Thank you very much for your quick reply. I gathered that this is the logical way to keep the sensor dust off. However I feel instruction manuals should be better in explaining functions. Cheers keep up your good work Martin

Hi! The chart on the page recommends 20mm swap (blue) for the Panasonic Lumix g7, but here I can see that the orange is used. Then what is the right size?

Hello, I have got the GX80 camera and I am really confused about what size of the swab should I use. On your website it says 20mm but the camera have got 17.3 x 13 mm senzor. So which swab shall I buy?
@thedustpatrol7515
@thedustpatrol7515 5 жыл бұрын
The filter in front of the sensor is slightly larger than the sensor itself. So it is much easier to clean with the larger 20mm blue swab.

Hi! I own a Panasonic GH5. The user's guide is not so helpful... Is there something specific with the GH5 (IBIS - should the camera be on "on"? / the sensor doesn't have low-pass filter, but is there a protection on the sensor, or is the sensor nude?) or is the wet cleaning method the same as you presented here? thank you for your answer and sorry if my questions sounds basic. I can't find any specific advice for the GH5. Damien

The camera should be switched on. This will lock the sensor which is necessary for cleaning. The camera has a filter in front of the sensor. Klaus Walterbusch

I have a Panasonic g7 that has a fingerprint smudge on the sensor. The only thing I have available are moist Zeiss lens wipes. Would these be suitable to clean the smudge? I was thinking a single pass per wipe.

I did this. I’m looking through a monitor now image looks clean. But it seems like the sensor has a very light haze now from the fluid I think. Should I do the step again even if my image looks clean? Should I try to get rid of the very light haze on my sensor?
@thedustpatrol7515
@thedustpatrol7515 5 жыл бұрын
I would recommend to give it a few more times to get rid of the smear. It is like your car's windshield after a long period of no rain. When you first start the windshield wiper, the dirt smears across the window. But with several tries and fluid you will be able to completely remove the smear.

What about wet cleaning on a Panasonic stabilized sensor? Can you damage it because it moves?
@thedustpatrol7515
@thedustpatrol7515 6 жыл бұрын
With no lens and the camera set to ‘OFF’, you can see that the sensor is ‘loose’. With the camera set to ‘ON’ after 1-2 seconds you can see the sensor lock into position. At this point the sensor appears stiff and ok for cleaning.

Doesn't turning the camera on create a static charge on the sensor that will pull "dust" to it, like the fibers we see floating in sunlight inside the house?
@thedustpatrol7515
@thedustpatrol7515 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does. But the sensor must (!) be locked in position. As long as we don't have a different way to lock the sensor, we don't have another option. Also, loose fibers/dust can be removed with a blower.

SIR ? what if the swab i bought cant fit in to my sensor ?? is there any techniques or way to fit it ??
@thedustpatrol7515
@thedustpatrol7515 6 жыл бұрын
If the swab is too small, you have to clean in 2 strikes. If it is too big, you may be able to clean from top to bottom rather than from side to side.

This was not a product test. We made the video to show you how you can easily clean your sensor. We don't suggest that you never need a second or even a third try. Thank you for the hint, we will adopt it in further videos and will clarify that it may need a second or third try to clean the sensor. We have already done this in other videos.
