I have tried successfully a vacuum cleaner and a plasic bottle. It works: all my pictures are free of dust!!! How I did it? First turn the camera on and move the lens in tele position. Than remove the battery so the tele position of the lens is fixed. Cut of the bottom of a small plastic water bottle. Place the bottle around the lens with the open bottom against the body of the camera. Use a vacuum cleaner to form a vacuum in the bottle. Do this several times. The air in the camera body has been sucked to the bottle and vacuum cleaner. And it has blown the dust away. I can’t give an insurance that it works. May be worse: it is possible that more dust spots appear. You have to work in clean surroundings. But I am very happy now that it works for me. There was a dust spot on the sensor or on the lens. The dust spot was there a couple of days after I bought the LX100 in 2016. Panasonic cleaned it for free (goodwill) and did it only one time because in the manual is written: “Avoid using the camera in places with excessive dust or sand, or where water can come into contact with the camera”. So I was very alert to prevent dust. However, two weeks after it was cleaned, there was a new dust spot ☹. The costs of cleaning would be very expensive (ca. €150,-(!)) so I learned to live with the spot. Today I tried it to clean by myself and it works very well!. Success, Freek

Did you post this technique on DP Review? Thanks if you did! Since February of 2016, I've sent my LX100 back to Panasonic (under warranty) either two or three times due to dust spots on the sensor. After that I used the above technique on three separate occasions with success. Recently, I noticed more specks of dust or something when I did an f11 shot with bright sky, so I tried the technique again. This time the debris/matter seems more stubborn and doesn't seem to move when I use the vacuum cleaner method. I am toying with the idea of disassembling it - now that it's out of warranty - but don't feel overly confident.

Have same on just bought LX100, new camera, 1st day of use. Hair like piece of dust, clearly visible on blue sky... Environment control during assembly ?

I still use this camera. About 5 years ago I had to take it to a Panasonic Authorized Repair Shop to fix a issue. I don't remember the issue. About 2 years ago the lever on top of the camera could not zoom the lens anymore. So I transferred the zoom to the ring around the lens. I now use the camera for vacations and family events because it is easy to carry. I used the camera today to shoot 4k video of a running event in my city. I would be careful about buying a used LX100 because of the issues I had. So maybe a new Lx100 II would be good.

Probably not on the sensor on the lens. As you can see it visably before taking the photo. If you use F1.7 you won't see it in the image if it's on the sensor. Very rare they get dust inside.

How long did you have the camera until this started happening?

I had the camera about 3 years. I could not believe that I got dust on my sensor because this is a lens that can not be removed. But I learned that it happens. I am Lucky that I live near a Panasonic Service Center. I had to pay to have them clean the sensor. I forget the price, about $100. Now the camera is back to normal.

That doesn't matter, it could happen the first time you use the camera or as with mine after three years. Spend a fortune having it fixed at a service centre and it happens again the next day.
