I attempt to vlog, even when I'm on the verge of a sensory sensitivity overload. It's been a long week full of very overstimulating experiences that are just "daily life" for most people. But that's autism, when daily life is disabling because of how overwhelming it is.

I have a very narrow "comfort" window. I get so easily overwhelmed. Also with food as well as weather. Thank you, Amanda, for helping me with my awareness process. Painful as it is.

Yes, I've always said I have a very narrow window of comfort, and I knew this about myself way before I got my autism diagnosis recently. I always wondered why I couldn't be more "go with the flow", like most people. Now at least I know why!

I was so disappointed some months ago when I just couldn't handle my favorite spicy tacos for Taco Tuesday at my local taqueria. I figured maybe I was just getting older and my tastes were changing (again). But you're completely correct - I was in the throes of deep burnout at that time! I'm in a much better place now, but still working on repairing the damage that was done to my overall mental health. As I rediscover old hobbies, I might try some tacos next Tuesday!

I found your page last year after I got my late adulthood diagnosis. I turn 30 later this year and through seeking advocacy and therapy, your stories and channel have modeled the warmth I know so many neurodivergent people need in order to embrace our varying degrees of abilities. So I was so HAPPY to hear you say you were in the pnw!. I’m from Portland and over the last 5-6 years in my adulthood I’ve had to learn how overwhelming the heat can be and completely become a hermit in my air conditioned apartment with the blinds slightly open until the sun and temperature drops. I know better than to go outside for long periods of time if I can help it until at least 7/8 pm. Growing up i didn’t have an AC. Since then my parents have both put central air in their homes. But I have great trouble with my speech and communicating verbally to new people / which I’ve always noticed made me irritable. Now I’m understanding how patient i should be with myself. It’s so validating to hear such a niche sensory experience be explained and shared from you in this channel

Temperature regulation has always been a nightmare for my brain and now that I'm unmasking it's getting even worst so I relate to your experience.

Interesting! I don't know if I've experienced that but I can be much more sensitive to things and find it hard to process when I've been stressed or affected by other things I find difficult.

Interesting! I survive on spicy ramen, but there are definitely brief periods where I suddenly can't do it.

Oddly enough, when it comes to work lighting, I find dim lighting more difficult for my senses because I feel like I'm struggling to see. And the it makes me tired. But shiny, reflective, or glaring bright light can also be an issue, especially during migraine-prone seasons. I definitely find some sensory things are dialed up when I am low on reserves. Like smells- ripe banana, for example. So strong! Or house noises like fans, light buzzes, clocks, the sound of my pillowcase rubbing against my head when trying to sleep... 😅

sometimes the style of tires can help to reduce road noise ( when the original chunkier treaded tires that we had on the old escape got switched to smoother treads there was a major reduction in road noise: major! )

It has been rough... Also from Texas and recently thinking I might have POTs... No AC in my PDX home and was 99.7F in my bed at my 5PM bed time... Been super cranky and glad I don't have to commute for work and cam stack most of my errands to the AM... but still overheating in my motorcycle suit.

Interesting! And how cool Your kids gave You that idea! I struggle a lot with the heat at the moment, but it makes me have less appetite in general. Which seriously is not a bad thing for me😅 I just eat some fruits, salad with rice, such things. And I do love very spicy food as half latina, but in extreme heat I just don´t crave it as much as in colder weather. Happy to see that despite the fact You said You are not so fit You smile and laugh and seem to be happy☺ Have a nice weekend Amanda and if You like, tell Your kids I think they must be clever to figure this out. Well, sometimes it might be easier from outside?

I have a lot of variation in how much noise I can tolerate. Many times I can't tolerate even music. But sometimes I crave music.

I relate so very much to this video. I'm from the PNW, too. The hot weather has been really exhausting and overstimulating for me. It got to 94 F inside my home for half the week last week, and I felt so completely exhausted that it's taken days to recover. (Even with hydrating like crazy and blasting every fan I possess.) Overheating is the worst. I'll take being too cold over too warm any time. I had never looked up POTS before this video, and now I have to wonder if I might be affected by that. Standing up too fast definitely doesn't feel great for me; I've gotten out of the habit of standing up very quickly because of it. I wonder.

If you want to know if you probably have POTS but a pulse oximeter and see how much your pulse increases from laying down to standing up. It is called the poor man's POTS test. There are videos on how to do the test.

While here I am in Southern CA, where we are having a very uncharacteristically mild summer, so far! It's been mostly upper 70s to low 80s, definitely very cool for this time of year.

Mild Foods, I prefer myself most of the time. May I suggest Cheese and crackers? I find cheese and crackers very bland. Mac n cheese is another bland food. I dont like spicy foods in general. Nacho Cheese is too spicy for me. I loathe being warm or hot... Also, I love the Wendys hamburger patties! Tastes better than McDonalds imo. My fav Wendys is the Jr Bacon Cheeseburger. Yum!

I suffer from heartburn and acid reflux. I find that I will still enjoy my spicy foods, but my body will tell me it was too much sensory later on when I get my symptoms. I can go for weeks without having any issues, and then one random food that normally doesn't bother me will bother me.
