I don't think he's saying that. But to think about it, you and your wife went to Madjugorje for a reason. Not being a great tourist attraction, I'm going to guess that both of you were going there because of your love for the Catholic faith. Going to Medjugorje may have just reinforced what you already knew. Our Lord took something not good and made it good (once again). Medjugorje has been said to be NOT of supernatural influence by two bishops of authority. To ignore this authority is wrong on your part. I suggest you look for another reason for your wife's (re)conversion and your renewal there. God bless you and your wife.

Dr. Brooksie You make a lot of assumptions about what happened to my wife and I. My wife, not being Catholic at the time, did not go to Medjugorje because of any love of the Church. She agreed to come for reasons that would take too long to describe here, but which I would be happy to relate in another context. I have seen the argument among Medjugorje detractors that if someone is transformed in Medjugorje, it must be for another reason, not because of Medjugorje itself. But the experiences that changed us in Medjugorje were very specifically related to being in Medjugorje. For multitudes of others too, it is the same. Medjugorje is the Confession captial of the world. More Catholic Confessions are heard there than anywhere else. About 800 priests can date their sense of vocation back to being in Medjugorje. And what of 5000 people being at Eucharistic Adoration together in Medjugorje on a regular basis? And Mass being said daily in multiple languages throughout the year? With regard to the statements by those two bishops, normally the Church accepts the local bishop's ruling. The Church accepted the negative ruling by the local bishop on Garabandal and the positive ruling on Akita. But in this case, Rome did not accpept the rulings by the local bishops. Instead, a papal commission was set up to investigagte the matter, and the commission recommended that the first seven apparitions be recognized as authentic and that the claims of ongoing apparitions be studied further. Of course, Rome can't fully approve an ongoing phenomenon. But Rome could certain condemn and ongong phenomenon, and they have not chosen to do so. The commission also recommended that permission be given for official parish and diocesan pilgrimages to Medjugorje, which Pope Francis has recently granted. Also, the apostolic visitor sent to Medjugorje has made very strong statements in support of the site and has called for expanding the facilities of the shrine to accommodate pilgrims. Since Rome has not accepted the negative rulings of the local bishops, I see no reason why I should pay atttention to them. To be fair to Fr. Wolfe, the positive developments from Rome came after he recorded this video. He has every right to say that he doesn't believe in the apparitions. But he goes much further. He calls the phenomenon demonic, which casts aspersions on all those whose lives have been so positively transformed by the experience. Also, Rome would not authorize official pilgrimages to a site deminated by the demonic. Since Fr. Wolfe is a man of integrity, it is now time for him to issue a public apology for his assertion that Medjugorje is of demonic origin. Until he does so, I will no longer listen to his talks or sermons. One last thought - many Medjugorje detractors speak about dissension at Medjugorje. My observation is that these detractors are not familiar with the very complex dynamics of Balkan ecclesial politics going back to Ottoman and Communist times. The missionaries got caught up in the struggle between the Franciscans who kept the faith alive in the region for generations and the diocesan administration, which was often compromised. In time, the Franciscans took their case to Rome and won. We need to see this struggle in its historic context. At the same time, a lot of detractors who use the dissension argument seem to have no problem with dissension when it comes to the Latin Mass movement, where there has been a lot of dissension, rightly or wrongly. These same detractors are also usually very anti-Francis. With one breath they reject Medjugorje for alleged disobedience, but with the next breath, they castigate the Pope for just about everything he says and does. Let's be consistent.

@@e.witover4222 That was a while back, and since then I have very much changed my tune. I kept listening to the accounts from people other than the visionaries. I really thought at first look that the main seer was acting. The fact that the church has not approved these visions seemed to confirm my suspicion. But after hearing so many accounts of miracles and conversions, including one from a guy who thought like I did and told the woman to her face, there's just too much around the primary apparitions to discount them entirely. Now, I freely admit that I WANT to believe that the divine is appearing for our sakes--so, confirmation bias is a danger. But I also think the evidence is overwhelmingly positive, and that some day the Church will confirm these.

I've been there and have many miraculous photos from there, plus miracles I witnessed with others that cannot be of the devil with so many conversions and positive fruits that have abounded from there. There's also numerous videos on KZfaq of miracles in the sky, etc... Everyone is entitled to their opinion I know, and some incidents seem damning to the visionaries, etc... Keith Mayhew Hammond I just heard this part about idolatrous piety. Could this be practicing the devotionals for a self gratification, or to one up super religious friends? I think we have to constantly check our motives for why we are doing our religious duties to make sure it is in right spirit. I too would like clarity on the specifics of the message.

So I will have to look if I can find something from the original. But making sure we have the right spirit in what we do is a good practice and will likely prevent any false-devotion.

I am reminded of the Pharisees who liked to do religious practices publicly to “show their righteousness.” I have seen this a lot in Protestant churches, but not Catholic. At least didn’t recognize it as such. (Confirmed Easter Vigil ‘15.) After re-reading, it looks like I got off on another track of public display rather than private.
