In the ballad, Senta tells the story of the Dutchman and vows to redeem a man she has never set eyes on.

Die sängerische Leistung einschließlich der Senta-Ballade war für mich nicht so überzeugend (kann auch mit der Open-Air-Aufführung zu tun haben) wie die szenische Präsentation, die Wagners Höllländer gerechter wird als alle anderne Regiethater, die erleben mußte. Für mich ist immer noch Anja Silja als Senta in Bayreuth der Goldstandard, auch weil sie trotz ihrer Jugendlichkeit (oder gerade deswegen) im Ausdruck unübertroffen ist. Noch nie ist ein völllig überdrehter Backfisch so glaubwürdig auf der Opernbühne dargestellt worden. Das können erfahrene Sängerinnnen nicht bringen. - Heinz
