Rosalie is an experienced dog mother. This is her last litter (she just had 4).
She wants to enter the puppy room in peace but her puppies are too excited.
She also wants to teach them to stop drinking milk anymore.
When the puppies are getting calm Rosalie starts taking care of them. With this behavior she teaches them that the only way to success (in this case being together with the mother) includes a calm energy level.

This is why it's important to not take the puppies away from the mother before they're ready. Puppies who've been separated from the mother too early are often much more ill-behaved and have a higher chance of having separation anxiety and generally being harder to train.

@@TheMagnificentArtist Puppies are weaned at 6 weeks but should stay with mom for at least another 2 weeks. Ideally puppies should not leave mom until 10-12 weeks old. As you can see the puppies in this video (8 weeks old) are still trying to nurse which is what pisses off the mom dog. They are still very baby-like and not really ready to be without their mom/siblings.

@@TheMagnificentArtist12 weeks. Unfortunately, many breeders will let puppies go at 8 or 10 weeks. The breeder we got our cockapoo from let us pick her up at no less than 12 weeks. At 9 weeks she separates the puppies from the mother during the daytime and has an older male babysit them in an outside play area. Puppies are then much more confident and they're easy to crate train. The breeder also spends time holding each puppy and getting them accustomed to having body parts touched such as their ears, paws, claws, tails, looking at teeth, etc.

I don't know if it's a retriever thing or not (I never saw another dog doing that). When my flat coat retriever freezes, I know I have to step in quickly, because she'd immediately make her point clear enough with the other dogs (she doesn't growl, she doesn't give any other warning, and she never bites, but when she jumps on the other dog, he's so impressed he falls on the ground, and the owners are mad at me).. x)
