My research uses Twitter data to train a model that predicts sentiments in comments on online platforms like Reddit or Facebook, giving insight into these, otherwise anonymous, users' thoughts. I would also detail how the model was built and challenges faced along the way. This would lead to a short concluding discussion on the broad possibilities of this technology, ranging from detecting radicalization on the web to customer reviews on Amazon. This would relate it back to real-world applications that matter to everyone, not just those in the tech sphere.
Andy Kim is a junior at Deerfield Academy. Ever since coding for the first time in elementary school, Andy has been passionate about all things computer science. He has pursued research in a variety of fields, including astrophysics, facial recognition, as well as sentiment analysis, the topic of his talk.
Andy is fascinated with harnessing the power of machine learning to analyze human communication. He believes as more and more of our lives become digitized, sentiment analysis will become a valuable tool in evaluating our digital interactions. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
