I may have been dreaming this (strange dreams I know), but I thought sentry mode disables itself at 20% SOC, and the car generally should go into a deep sleep below 20% SOC so one would expect to lose less than 1 percentage point SOC per day.

With summon or geofencing, many cars could use airport long-term parking and then drive themselves to top up from time to time. You could make clever signing around the lot so that even cars without on-road lane navigation could navigate using their collision avoidance cameras. You could even have a touchless car wash so when your car meets you at the valet station, it's all nice and shiny. It might be nice if cars could do this self-parking and retrieving in any parking lot.

This why we need photovoltaics on EVs. Not to add more kWh to range like 10-15 km a day, but to allow some electronics to run while the car is parked without draining the battery pack. We use more and more electronic devices, like dashcams or alarms that should be on 24/24, maybe batteries need minimal heating in extremely cold weather, etc. On the other hand, if I follow Elon Musk, it's the car that should instead think for itself when the battery is low, "What should I do? Should I call Bjørn so he can charge me up? Nah, I'll just drive myself to the next supercharger. Well, I'll call him nevertheless so he can film me doing my thing for his KZfaq channel. They should add a "Oh" and a "Ah" button on KZfaq, not just a "Like" button."

Bjørn, Are you confusing MCU and AP versions? The always connected and energy saving options are available on MCU1, independent of AP version. MCU1 cars exist with both AP1, AP2 and AP2.5. Guess this is a MCU1, AP2 car, that only has sentry, not dashcam, since it only has the 11kW charger. There is 16,5kW charger in all AP2.5 cars. Dashcam is AP2.5 only..

Regular dash cam uses about 3ma waiting and 0.5amp in use, however, it will likely be powered by your 12v lead acid battery. So, same problem, if your 12v battery is flat you get same issues. I had this trouble on an EV before. It’s supposed to shut off earlier, but it would be nice if the software went into a mode that did not continual record, but only when there was movement, not as good but then not 6kw per day, insane.

This is an edge case where some invisible edge solar panels catching holographically refracted sunlight through the windshield to its edges could recharge some battery enough to deal with this. If such a feature was studied long enough, it could become economical to do for most the vehicles. A few kwh per day could be added in sunny climates if they had an online supercapacitor.

Yes, a Tesla owners forum had a good discussion. Stand alone motion detection cameras are not the same as the car's computer hence the difference in energy use keeping the car itself awake.

You can learn from the past by looking at it and see what can be improved. That's how you become better. This is quite obvious. I should have brought my CHAdeMO adapter. I was assuming that the owner had one in the car. See?

Does your gas car look out for itself while you are gone? No. Your puny ICE car battery wouldn't last 2 days. And then you'd possibly be out $100 or more for a new one, plus whatever it cost to have emergency services give you a boost. If the owner here had not had Sentry Mode on for the better part of two weeks, the car would not have run its battery down.

Always fun how a parked tesla in sentry mode uses more electricity per day than my household.. look at those tesla's being green and great for the environment..
@Stewiedude1
@Stewiedude1 5 жыл бұрын
Average household consumption is 10.8 kWh per day and that's in the UK, in america the average is 29.5 kWh per day. So the tesla uses around 20% to 60%. Just because it consumes electricity does not make it non green, as almost all of Norways electricity is hydroelectric it will still equate to less pollution than nipping to the shops in a gas car. Educate yourself

If not used for this, that green power could be used for other things in Norway or exported to other countries.. every unnecessary WH of "green" power used.. means unnecessary "dirty" power needs to be produced.. so nope.. it's not environment friendly because Norway has a lot of "green" energy.

No. I've had the 2018 Nissan Leaf for 6 months, and honestly there has been no inconvenience whatsoever, even with a range of just 250km. The biggest difference since I switched from petrol is the big saving in fuel expenditure. EVs are so pleasant to drive - near-silent, smooth acceleration with instant torque. I will never go back to a fossil-fuel vehicle, ever.

@@bjornnyland I'm interesting in getting a Kia E-Niro because it looks like a regular car and has decent range. Living in northern Sweden means long trips to get anywhere, and I would not want the car to be without power after a week at the cabin. It is a long way to push it to get to the nearest building with power and the last bit to the cabin has to be made on foot or by boat/snowmobile, so the car will sit there by itself until I get back to it.
