It generally wouldn't recommend lifting throws when there is a big weight difference - but the best technique is the one you're best at.

I think this is an excellent example of the power of kuzushi. Stop the video at 1:08 and look at Uke's feet. The throw is barely started and he is already on his toes even though he is four inches taller. The earlier he is off balance the less likely he will be able to counter. Nice demonstration

Would it be possible or make sense to transition directly into an armbar after completing the throw? Is that something that's taught, or is it even practical? Asking as someone who's never trained Judo in their life but finds the art fascinating!
@EfficientJudo4 жыл бұрын
It is practiced. But also you can win in judo with a clean throw. So in competition you might not need to transition to an arm bar as the throw will be enough. If you dont score an Ippon, then transitions are super important, as you want to capitalise on the throw with a pin or submission.

Hi, Awesome nage, just doing some research and what is the difference between Seoi nage and morote Seoi nage?
@EfficientJudo4 жыл бұрын
Morote means 'two handed' so morote Seoi-nage is the classic two handed version shown here. Because there are so many variations of grips you can use, people will say Seoi-nage to mean any version including ippon, eri-ippon etc, and so they will add morote to denote this specific version. Hope that clears it up for you. Thanks for watching!

What's the difference between Morote-Seoi-Nage and Seoi Nage pls?
@EfficientJudo Жыл бұрын
Essentially there are many grips that Seoi-nage can be performed from, so people use Morote (meaning two handed) to refer to the classic sleeve and lapel grip. Under Kodokan definition, there is just Seoi-nage and Ippon Seoi-nage, so other words added to those are people trying to specific a particular grip, e.g. Kata-eri-seoi-nage for a cross grip variation etc.

Qual' è la differenza tra morote seoi nage e seoi nage?
@EfficientJudo5 ай бұрын
A classic Seoi-nage is a morote-seoi-nage by kodokan definition. Morote just means 'two handed' and so is just to mean that variations specifically, whereas people will say seoi-nage for any gripping variation.

@nidgeontour2575 жыл бұрын
Efficient Judo I know there are lots of variations of Seoi Nage? While we’re here do you ever use grappling dummy’s? 😳
@EfficientJudo5 жыл бұрын
@@nidgeontour257 grappling dummies have a place if you have the space / time to practice but don't have a partner - but your options are limited in what you can do. I see them more as a conditioning than technical training tool.
@nidgeontour2575 жыл бұрын
@@EfficientJudo That's interesting as I have built two. One for Ne Waza and one for Tachi Waza. Both dummys took me the best part of a year to get right? i've not been on the mat for 12 years due to work and family commitments. I am studying the syllabus again as i've forgotten most of it. I'm doing throws and ground work techniques i've never done before, so I hope to grade for my Brown belt just buy watching technique videos and practising about 10 hours a month. I'm writing down about 30/40 routines and am drilling them till i know them without thinking. I just want to prove a grappling dummy can be an advantage as they get a lot of positive and negative press? I'll let you know how I get on??

Can you throw someone heavier than you?
@EfficientJudo3 жыл бұрын
Yes - but if someone is much heavier, there are other options that don't involve lifting your opponent, which are usually better in that scenario.

Great, now show the taller guy doing it. It's waaaay more difficult for a tall judoka
@EfficientJudo8 ай бұрын
It's not difficult for a taller player to do seoi-nage, you just need to develop a good squat. If there is a really significant difference in hight, then it likely better to use seoi-otoshi. Judo is about using the right technique for the right moment.
