Experience the beauty of Seonamsa Temple in Korea with the most beautiful fluffy cherry blossoms.
On this adventure, I am bringing you to a historical place in southern Korea. Seonamsa Temple is heavenly and beautiful during the spring but has a long history and is home to numerous important cultural heritage. Seonamsa Temple is our magical destination just outside of Suncheon, in Jeollanam-do. Let’s explore together.
Nested at the base of Jogyesan Mountain in Suncheon, Jeollanam-do, Seonamsa Temple is a monument to centuries of resilience and spiritual devotion. Established in 527, the Seonamsa temple complex has survived the storms of history and emerged as an essential center for Korean Buddhism.
The temple grounds are breathtaking, with fluffy cherry blossoms in full bloom. The blue sky on the day of my visit added to the surreal appearance of this treasure of Korean Buddhism. This temple hasn’t received enough attention for what it offers a visitor besides its countless historical and religious treasures. I believe this video will make you want to go visit this amazing place.
Seonamsa is unique u among Buddhist temples. Remarkably, it lacks the Gates of the Four Heavenly Kings (Devas), traditionally guardians protecting the Buddhist temples. A local legend suggests that the natural guardianship of the Janggunbong Peak is the reason for that decision. The peak's name literally translates to “General” or “Admiral”; thus, it provides all the protection needed.
The cherry blossom in Seonamsa comes two weeks after the rest of the country as most of the cherry trees in the temple are with fluffy blossom, that usually blooms at the end of April.
