Precious was released as the first single a few months before the record came out. So it was the first taste from the album and the first song release in like 4 years since the Exciter album. Good song that did not disappoint, and is still played on the tours.

Went to the concert for this album in Tampa back in 2005. I was 19 and my sis was 15. My parents were the main characters in this story. Lol. They have been fans since 84. They once sat outside of a ticketmaster booth in NYC overnight for tickets. While i was at my grandmother's house back in the bronx.😂 i was like 2 or something. Fast forward 18nyears later and there i was at the cooolest concert ever with my fam. I knew every song since birth! They did 2 encores that night. The crowd was loud and rowdy! It was awesome. The fans making the floors quakes from the stomping and the banging of the seats. It was raw that night. I forgot wat track Dave was going to sing but his vocals were off. Dave yells "whoa whoa whoa. Wat he fuck was that. I sucked!!" Someone in the yells back "you sucked!" Dave laughs and the crowd goes wild and yells "you sucked!" Lol Dave laughs again and yells "bring it back!" They set the song up again and absolutely destroyed it. It was soo awesome to see live. The rawness that is this band. I'm 38 now and that concert was the best night ever. Oh and another little story. My parents had been to several of their concerts b4. They met couple that were also from NYC and devoted fans since the 80s. Two cool guys. And they never shared info but somehow they managed to sit next to eachother in numerous concerts. Somehow that same couple managed to sit in the row right in front of us. Lol after like 10 years they still managed to find they're way to eachother. Lol one of the guys had the violator rose tattooed on his left arm. They told my sister and I about how they met my parents and it was a serendipitous meeting of DM friends. Different lifestyles and backgrounds but found a way to be soul mates through a band and their amazing songs. It was an awesome night.😭

I'm glad you like this song so much cause Precious ultimately got me into Depeche Mode back then. I used to see the video play on TV when I was younger and even though I knew who this band was, I never really got too much into them until I grew older. But this song always stuck with me, it has a really special place in my heart.

You're absolutely right - in this song everything happened and right time. Great lyrics, melody arrangement and Dave sings like God... Fragile things like kids and broken marriage turned into one of the beautiful and melancholic piece - that's another side of Depeche Mode! ❤😊

Been waiting and waiting for you to get to this one. I knew you were going to absolutely love this song. It’s definitely one of the best songs that Martin ihas written and it is an absolute Depeche Mode classic.! As many other people, I’ve told you this song is about divorce and he’s basically singing this song to his kids. I’ve been in the situation myself, so this song always hit me hard. Absolutely love it! Top 5 Mode song for me!

I didn’t mean to say, Martin was singing it to MISS, and he wrote the song for his kids. But I guess obviously when writing the song he did sing it, so I guess it is both Lol.

There it is, my favorite DM song. I'd wager most DM fans consider this their favorite 21st century song. The subject matter, the passing mention of God and angels, and the extended final note of the verses, alongside the surreal video, gives it such an ethereal vibe, which in my book, is a 10/10.

Thought you'd love this one. Just shows how talented they are. For Martin to write this 25 years into their career. Not many can do this. Still played live now. Depeche Mode's biggest hit in chart terms and up their in You Tube plays behind Enjoy the Silence, Personal Jesus, Never Let Me Down Again and Strangelove.

Their biggest hit of the 2000‘s chart-wise. I think it was a Top 5 all across Europe and even sold well in the US. If I may say, there was another single prior to Precious which came out between Exciter and PTA. In 2004, Depeche Mode released a Remix Album with a single remix of „Enjoy the Silence“ (by Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park). That one was also a huge hit, so 2004/2005 felt like another heyday for the band in a way.

This was the first single from the album and once i heard it i loved it as well. Some criticize it for being an obviously made to be a single , but who cares it is a good song. Here in the states in LA it did get some radio play, i wouldnt call it a hit single here, but then again outside of Violator singles and people are People before it, most of their tunes werent really radio hits here.

Martin wrote three perfect pop songs in my opinion: enjoy the silence Its no good Precious That does not mean that I think that these are his best songs but they belong to his best songs. They are the most main stream popsongs I would say which are brilliant. The fourth one would be „ghosts again“ in my row but this was written by Richard Butler and Martin.

Far from an amazing relastionship lol, Martin wrote this song when he was getting divorced, and he wrote this song for his children and how they were getting through the divorce (I hope you learn to trust, have faith in both of us). Also, Precious is one of their most famous songs, alongside Enjoy The Silence, Personal Jesus and Just Can't Get Enough.
