SEPTA and Amtrak are reconnecting their train stations at 30th Street

Жыл бұрынGray 30th Street Station is a major hub for train travel in Philadelphia region, but if you try to get there via subway, the transfer is anything but simple.
That should change in the near future, as SEPTA and Amtrak have plans to restore a connecting tunnel - which existed for nearly 50 years but shut down in 1981 - as a part of a federally funded renovation.
Essie Haverkamp, Nicholas Pompey, and Vinella Jill Vinca, students at WHYY Education's 2023 summer Youth Employment Camp, have details on how that connector used to work, and what's coming in the future.

The 30th St. Station renovations are due to be completed in 2025, along with the proposed tunnel. The entire district is undergoing development (think Hudson Yards but smaller). That is what will take until 2050.

This was around the same time they demolished Chinatown to build Vine Street. How much did automotive industry paid them to make public transit as inconvenient as possible?

The connection was at there because PRR paid for part of the construction to build the subway under Market at 30th in the 50s. the tunnel was closed due to security reasons.

2050? It could take less than 5 years to reconnect get on the ball. Fire the GM first for not doing the job.

the old tunnel was dirty, smelled of urine and not safe. homeless and robbers would scare the public. after some robberies it was shut down in the 80s.

This is why Philly will always be second rate. 25+ years to reopen an existing pathway? Stop wasting our time.

That tunnel will need a lot of police patrolling because of the high crime rate in Philly. Women will have to really be mindful going through that tunnel at night.

2050?!?!?! RIDICULOUS!!!!!! Sorry I know your only bringing the news but I'm 60 yrs. old and I have to wait until I'm 87 for it to open?!?!? That's Philly for you...SMH!
