It's amazing how the whole essence of a multi-season show can be captured in 19 minutes. I can't think of anything that is in UnReal and isn't in this short...or a more perfect way to pitch a series to a network.

No comments on how this film shows how disgusting and ultimately harmful reality shows are? Interesting.

There's a whole show that came out of this series-it's called Unreal and it has four seasons. Unfortunately only the first is good, but ah well

This entire film is a comment on how disgusting and ultimately harmful reality shows are. Us saying it in the comments section is redundant.

Why did the contestant become instantly suspicious when Goldberg said "You are so fucking beautiful"? Was there something inherently suspicious about that statement, or was it meant to be the contestant saw Goldberg had tears and interpreted that as her feeling guilty for an unknown reason?
@amandalovatsis
@amandalovatsis Жыл бұрын
I think it might have been the "who are you really mad at" that made Jessica realize that Rebecca was still trying to pull it out of her. Or perhaps the overly emphatic beautiful statement hinted that she was working her up on purpose.

Shiri Appleby is definitely a better casting choice, she's much more believable and not annoying like this girl. She keeps whispering and comes off as obviously manipulative, fake and why is she cryyyying!?!?? She's obviously unstable. I think it's just too transparent compared to what shiri did. This girl, I just believe she's unstable and doesn't know what she's doing. With shiri you can tell she's planned something

I actually think this actress did a great job of portraying the inner conflict the producer feels about the work she’s doing

I know my reply is late for a two year old comment but damn, she irritated me so much! Why whisper? It's not like the info she's telling Anna Camp are secrets or something
@amandalovatsis
@amandalovatsis Жыл бұрын
The whispering reads like she's trying to maintain trust, like as if she's showing that these convos are private between them two only and won't be told to anyone else or used against her (even though they will be). And the crying was a show of sympathy and an attempt to get the contestant to do the same. She was trying to break Jessica down into tears by showing her own tears. I could be wrong but that's how I took it. Either way, both whispering and tears are tools that may be used to accomplish something specific.

Man, why couldn't Shapiro just have kept this as is? This was a concise little gem of emotional laceration. Not perfect, but effective. Then she stretched it into a typical soap opera. Oh, well.

I'm grateful the first season got made, it showed the reality (pardon the pun) of the whole process from conception to finish and I had a nice time watching it. It covered the role of alcohol, selection based on mental problems, producers competing against each other, being there for media attention not love, etc a lot better than any short film could. This film didn't even touch on the aspect of Goldberg competing with other producers who were also trying to do similar things.
