Hilarious match, plenty of good shots from both, some questionable line calls, some funny looks from Mauresmo, and great reactions from Serena. Enjoy guys.
Edit: this video got tons of copyright claims which means it will sink and my videos are sinking anyway, so might as well just post at midnight local time instead of a more feasible time for people to watch since no one will anyway. I hate this platform.
Edit edit: I think YT saw my description and went LOL GUESS AGAIN, because even with the copyright issues this video blew up and became one of my most popular videos. I still hate the algorithm though.

Serena and Venus sound so much alike. Serena was not playing her best tennis and she was working her back on the tour after a long injury break. Proud of both ladies, this was a great match.

I remember watching this match live - Mauresmo caused a lot of damage by just bunting the ball back at Serena, often short. It pulled Serena into no man's land and left her exposed. Mauresmo choked when it mattered most though.

Watching this again, just realize how good and talented Mauresmo was. A few more flatter down the line forehands would have won her more points. She went too safe in some crucial points.

She was amazing and one of my favorite players, that's why I have so many videos of her on my channel. This match could have been hers but Serena was too good at the end

Agree. And a few unfortunate calls too. It's a heartbreak for her many times against Serena and some other players.

She lost that confidence she had in 2002 and that's why she lost the final + Sharapova was 6 cm smaller than year later (182) and moved better. Once Sharapova got to 188 she got stiff as a plank and Serena regained that confidence around 2007-8, there was no contest afterwards. Mauresmo had clear Serena problem, even when she won vs Serena at 2006 USO, she needed 3 sets to beat Serena in her worst season ever.

I don’t like Serena, but I have to say she looked really cute here. 2004 was by far her peak in terms of her appearance. She was at her slimmest post 2001 and all of her outfits that year were great since it was her first ever year with Nike and they really went all out. Anyway, if Mauresmo had not choked this match away, Sharapova wouldn’t have won Wimbledon at 17 since Mauresmo was the worst possible match up for her at that age.

You want to reduce an athlete to talk about looks? Mauresmo didn't choke, Serena was just better than her. She won 23 freaking grand slams. What you said was ignorant, besides Serena still looks amazing. What does your Mauresmo look like now? Don't even get me started on Sharapova; with her cheating self.

@@marilyncintron3864 Serena cheated way more than Sharapova and everyone knows it. The only reason why Sharapova was caught was because she is Russian. WADA is an American corporation and it protects US athletes, it’s always been the case in every sport. Serena was caught using TUEs on 12 separate occasions and missed not one but TWO doping tests. A third one would have meant an automatic ban. She hilariously locked herself in her “panic room” after officials came to collect her sample back in 2010.

While she was playing she was the most tested player on the WTA tour and not once failed-can’t say that about Sharadopa or even Halep. They both chested, got fined and received a SMALL ban. And let’s be clear, if you’re going to talk about the panic room incident, please tell the ENTIRE story. Serena was in her bed when her assistant came to her saying there are people outside her home and nobody knew who they were. Now keep in mind this was after Serena’s sister death, and the family of the murderer said that they will get the Williams sisters. So the assistant told Serena to go into the panic room until they could assure her she was safe. Let’s backtrack-not once before has anyone been tested at 5am and not once has a tester not identified themselves. But let’s continue…the testers refuses to identify themselves so the assistant called the police saying there are intruders. Finally after a couple of hours the testers identified themselves. Serena came straight from the panic room to the testing site and PASSED EVERY SINGLE TIME. And just so you know, a tue is a legal process. Serena received them due to breathing issues. She had to take treatments that had a steroid component, a _small_ component that would show up. If WADA had issues they would have denied them. Please stop making yourself look more ignorant and more hateful than you steady are.

@@jobuck879 1. Serena was not the most tested WTA player. She was *one of* the most tested athletes in 2018 and only that year. Otherwise, she was tested just about as much as other players, some years not even in the top 30 most tested. 2. Not failing a drug test does not mean anything. Lance Armstrong did not fail a drug test ever either. The reality is that Serena’s abuse of TUEs is exposed and we know she used illegal substances on at least 14 separate occasions from 2010 until 2015 alone. In addition to that, she skipped two drug tests and hid from the officials on two separate occasions, which is highly suspicious.

Elegance and class have never been Serena's style. She played with her muscle not with her brain? She wass toughness, loudness, and bad loser. When she started to lose she screamed louder and louder to disturb her oponent.

not at all piloyvind; she was both elegant and stylish; she played with brains and power; 23 grand slam titles; gold medals; numerous doubles titles; mixed doubles title; ended #1 twice; Serena was awesome and played on her terms, not listening to idots like yourself. Now she has millions and millions and lives a very comforting life. Not bad for a girl from Compton; an over comer. Your comment is just another foolish person who cannot handle her success and try to find a way to minimize it. Sorry but her achievements are on the books forever; no one can erase it. lol.

Really?!? So u think she won 23 Grand Slams without using her brain? Serena's been winning Grand Slams since she was 16 yrs old, now she's invested in so many companies. It requires brain power to achieve what she is....Rafa, Carlitos Djoko etc all make noise when they smack the ball it has nothing to do with obstruction.
